it is related to Meaning, Motivation and Mastery

I have included a link to a video below which shows noted philosopherAlan Watts speaking. You should find thisquite thought provoking as Watts is known for bringing traditional Eastern philosophy (e.g., Buddhism) to Western capitalistic cultures.

Please watch the video below and you may want to also read about Watts on Wikipedia.

Watts' ideas are directed toward life in general but his discourse raises how people experience paradoxes and confront competing values in the consideration and pursuit of their careers.

Moreover, the essence of his comments concern the centrality of attaining mastery. In this, his discussion reflects the core elements of competing values framework (CVF) and relate to the four quadrants of the CVF, which are concerned with supporting people in their careers, developing their creativity, monitoring their performance and maintaining their motivation (Quinn et. al., 2015). As such, Watts' discourse is a useful platform for thinking about CVF management theory in terms of the reality of managers and workers lives and experiences.

The hospitality, tourism and events industries are replete with young, vibrant and motivated individuals but it is also heavy with long-standing, sometimes exhausted, individuals; a context that is found present in other industries as well. Managers must not only find ways to motivate employees under their charge but also ensure that they themselves remain motivated to become master managers.

What CVF quadrant and competencies best help and guide managers in dealing with maintaining motivation for themselves and others in their workplaces? What strategies could managers apply personally to attain mastery in management?

Discussion Topic: Understanding the internal environment is a necessary attribute of a modern tourism and hospitality manager.
I believe that the
internal environment inside a hotel can affect the performance of the staff and analysis would help rectify any shortcomings in performance. This is because the internal environment affects the core attitude of the employees and it depends on the abilities of the manager to maintain a proper environment. Essentially, it is a manager’s duty to provide quality services to the customers with competitive pricing and so employee motivation and organisational skills are needed in any master manager.
Core competencies and value chain micro evaluation suggests that the internal environment depends on both the employees and the customers. Trained and efficient staff is important to provide quality services to satisfy the customer needs and so it depends on the manager to make sure the tasks are being prioritised and accomplished (Golubovskaya, Robinson, & Solnet, 2017). The CVF model illustrates the four action imperatives as control, compete, collaborate and create to build an internal environment that is both satisfactory to the customers and profitable for the management (Quin et.al 2015). A strategic marketing plan is to be devised by the manager to keep the prime priorities in focus (Michael & Robyn 2016). A master manager should portray a high level of cognitive and behavioural complexity for the job as well as show pragmatism in all his decisions.
