Kneeling for the National Anthem Many NFL players continue to refuse to stand during the national anthem. They defend their position by arguing that the goal is not to disrespect the anthem, but to draw attentionto the important issue of racial violence in the US. Response to the protest has been mixed. Some have answered that players are right to take advantage of this exposure in order to draw attention to an important issue. Others think that disrespecting the national anthem goes too far and yet others think players could achieve both by kneeling while placing their hands their chest, thus drawing attention but still respecting the anthem itself. Claims have been made that disrespecting liberals and minorities are in favor of kneeling while conservatives are in favor of standing. Using the Kneeling data set, tells us what sense you can make of the claim linking support for protesting to political or ethnic groups ? New Zealand Shooting In a mass shooting in New Zealand, a man walked into a mosque and opened fire on the crowd, once again sparking an outcry for gun control. Psychologists argue that surviving a mass shooting event is one of the few powerful enough experiences to change one’s opinion about gun control. To test that claim, we measured the support level for gun control of several New Zealand residents, none of which ever experience a mass shooting. We also measured support levels for all survivors of the shooting. Use the data on the New Zealand tab to test this claim. Presidential Election Fraud Former president Trump has yet to concede that he has lost the election, choosing instead to double down on unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud. Political pundits claim that only ardent Trump supporters believe the election was “stolen from him”. To test this claim we sampled a group of respondents, measuring their levels of belief in the legitimacy of the election process. After this, respondents were shown several Trump tweets claiming the elections was fraudulent and then their levels were measured once again. It has been argued thatsupport for Marijuana is strong among young people, while older voters are against it. Wecollected data on support levels and age for a large sample of respondents. Please use theMarijuana tab to test this claim.Infrastructure BillPresident Biden’s infrastructure agenda has yet to reach enough support to pass congress.Supporters of the bill point out that those people who are aware of the precarious state ofthe American infrastructure are in favor of the bill, while those who are not aware do notsupport it. To test whether this claim is correct we recorded the levels of support for theinfrastructure bill for several respondents. Some respondents were given a briefing on thecurrent status of infrastructure, while others [who were not aware of it] were not briefed.Does awareness of the state of US infrastructure impact people’s support of the bill.
