We have chosen Japan as the country in emerging technology for comparing it against United
States using the Hofstede's six dimensions of culture. Japan is known as the land of the rising sun. It is a country which is located in the far East Asia. The country’s population is 126 million and has the 3rd largest economy in the world. Further, the country’s imports is more than its exports.
There are three socio economic issues in Japan which are its dwindling exports, aging population and sinking economy. The main characteristics of the country are its hardworking capability, persistency, active lifestyle and a rich and valued culture.

Individualism
Masculinity
Uncertain Avoidance
Long-Term Orientation
Indulgence
The cultural difference and role leadership can be evaluated based on the Hoefstede’s six dimensions of culture. Following are the differences between the two countries:
Japan is considered as a borderline hierarchical society. Also, there is harmony maintained within the groups in Japan and is above the individual opinions. Japan is one of the most masculine country where there is severe competition faced by the companies. The country is prepared to face any situation which is catastrophic in nature. Japan is considered as one of the most fatalistic society in the world with 55 societies surveyed. Further, the fatalistic culture in embedded in the folk beliefs and in various new religions. Hence, the Japanese are believers in destiny and the gratefulness of gods (Tsushima et al.1986). Japan has a culture of restraint which means the extent to which the people of the society are able to control their desires and impulses. Hence, the low score of Japan in culture of restraint signifies that the country has cynicism and pessimism.
In comparison to this US also has a hierarchical society for its convenience. The country is highly individualistic where people tries to look after themselves and towards their families instead of the communities. All the Americans shows their masculinity. There is low uncertainty avoidance and they accepts more new and innovative ideas. Further, the country is not pragmatic but is very much practical in nature. Finally, the country believes in hard work and tries to play hard which is contradictory in nature.

JAPAN’S HISTORICAL ISSUES & GLOBALIZATION
Two companies operating in Japan but originated in United States are Apple & IBM
Apple faced challenges such as high competition, designing innovative ideas and technological transformation
IBM faced challenges while differentiating its hardware from the competitors, due to technological changes in the IT industry and observed a decline in revenue
Apple Inc. globalization is good as its product demand are high in Japan
Globalization is bad for IBM due to unable to stay in the competitive market
There are two multinational companies which are operating in Japan yet they are headquartered in United States and now faces various challenges while operating in Japan.
The first company is Apple Inc. which started its operation in Japan from 30th November, 2003 while IBM entered much earlier in Japan, 1925. They helped with the machines to Mitsubishi Shipbuilding. Apple Inc. faced various challenges such as high competition in Japan, ability to design innovative ideas and due to various technological transformation. Further, IBM also faced various challenges while differentiating its hardware from its rival players, due to changes in the technology market and a decline in the revenue generation process.
