CIVICS FST - MAKING CHANGE

One of the major points of the civics course is to learn how to become an active, participating member of society who can effectively help to bring about change for the better. Now is the time to take all that you have learned and make a change in society.

Step 1

Choose a major political issue that is of importance to you. You may choose from Google news, the political compass quiz, isidewith or Canadian Points of View (see link below).

Step 2

Research the issue. What is the major general issue (ex. environment) and what is the specific issue (ex. pipeline or fracking)

You must consult at least three academic sources.

Step 3

Write your essay.

1) Write an introduction explaining why you chose this issue. Explain what the personal connection is, and why you feel passionate about the issue. State your thesis. (~10 lines)

2) Write three paragraphs

Offer an historical background and context

Describe the current issue

Show the reader the debate, to offer the best possible solution.

3) Which CANADIAN political party would you support for this issue. In a paragraph, briefly. outline the stance of each of three major parties on this and/or other related and relevant issues. Show research based on isidewith or the parties’ official websites.

4) Conclude with a brief paragraph restating your thesis.
