Understanding visitors and their motivation is one of the keys to a destinations long term sustainability as an attractive tourist destinationIn this report, you are expected to choose a destination you have not been to before and using tourist/visitor motivation theory identify at least two recommendations for the destination to assist them in to be competitive in the long term. This will require you to research and detail the following:  An overview of the destination, including geographical information, unique selling points (USP’s), visitor experiential components and identification of the key stakeholders responsible for promoting and managing the sustainability of the destination. Analysis of the three (3) main motives for tourists to visit this destination.  Identification of any environmental, ethical, political or cultural/social issues that may impact the success of this destination in attracting these visitors in the long term.  Identification of the main competitor destination of your chosen destination and an analysis of the destinations relative strengths and weaknesses for attracting visitors.  Your two (2) recommendations on how this destination can prosper long term and increase or at least maintain current visitation numbers.*The Report must be well researched (based on relevant and reliable sources) and written in an academic style, approx. 1500 words in length (not including executive summary, reference list or any appendices).Be particularly careful to avoid plagiarism that is, passing other people’s work off as your own (academic theft). Introduction
There are various factors that motivate tourist to travel, that can be either for personal fulfilment, relaxation, and self-exploration or for social interaction. In some cases, it has been observed that the tourists are also motivated to travel due to the strengthening their family togetherness, prestige and shopping. The current essay will analyse and highlight the different push factors that allow tourists to seek travelling. In this case, the destination, which will be explored, is Barcelona.
An Overview of Barcelona
The city of Barcelona is known to be the capital of Catalonia in the country Spain. Barcelona is one of the populated cities in Spain with a population of 4.7 million people. Further, the city is also one of the largest Metropolises in the Mediterranean regions. Barcelona is located along the coast of river Llobregat as well as Besos. It is also surrounded by the mountain ranges of Serra de Collserola. The city was founded during the middle ages and was the administrative and economical centre of the Aragon Kingdom. Barcelona is also is the cultural centre of Spain enriched with cultural heritage attracting tourists from different parts of the world.
Unique Selling Points (USP’s)
Barcelona is one of the centres for a number of architectural buildings and creation by Antoni Gaudi and Montaner. Martins (2018), these architectural sites have been designated as the heritage sites by UNESCO. Additionally, Barcelona attracts millions of tourists years not only by its famous heritage sites but also for its cultural centres, trade fairs and commerce. It is also famous for fashion, media, education that has been contributing to its growing status globally. Further Barcelona is also been accepted to be the headquarters for Union of Mediterranean. The city host sports tournaments, conferences as well as expositions. It is also the economic and cultural centre for South-Western Europe.
Visitor Experiential Components
From the visitor's point of view, there are several museums build in different eras are well preserved in Barcelona. As expressed by Rico et al. (2019), some of the well-known museums, which attract tourist from different parts of the world, include National Museum for Art, Picasso museum, museum of Can Framis, a History museum in Catalonia, Museum of Barcelona Maritime and Egyptian museums....
