Unit 1 Discussion

Discussion Instructions:

Students are expected to participate at least three days a week by posting materials and contributions to the "Discussion Board". Each week, the topics to be discussed will be provided below these instructions. Unless otherwise stated all questions provided need to be addressed in your discussion.

In addition, students are expected to comment on materials posted by fellow students. To be counted as participation, your postings need to be thoughtful; that is, they refer to the week's readings, relevant issues in the news, information obtained from other sources (scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles), or ideas expressed in the postings of other class members. Where appropriate, use references to support your position. Your postings must demonstrate that you have reflected on the assigned readings, and synthesized the material with your previous knowledge and experience. Adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others time to comment on your work. Proofread all work before posting, poor sentence structure, grammar, and spelling mistakes will cost you points.

Due Dates:

1. Your initial post is due by Thursday each week. (30 Points)


2. Your additional two posts (2) responses to your classmates' posts are due by Saturday, midnight of each week. Please read the above information for details on what a good response will consist of. (10 points). The Saturday due date will allow you and your classmates to answer any questions that may be asked.


3. You are responsible to answer the questions from either your classmates or your instructor.


4. All work is due by Sunday midnight of each week.

1. What factors affect your nutritional needs?


2. How do scientists use the scientific method to understand nutrition?


3. What are enzymes, and why are they so important to digestion?


4. Describe the relationship between nutrition and health, and include overnutrition, undernutrition, and malnutrition in your discussion.
