1st student response

There were so many course concepts that I learned about but for me organizational behavior made an impact on my life. Organizational behavior is an important aspect in business. In essence, it involves research which is used to improve job satisfaction, performance, and leadership focuses on how people function when they are around other people. Organizational behavior is necessary to construct a strong foundation of business overall.

In order to apply course concepts I will read the employee policies to ensure that I have a full understanding. As an employee I can do my part by following the rules and policies so management can focus on my job performance so I will not have to suffer any disciplinary action. However, as a business owner I would need to ensure that I am aligned with my leadership goals and business strategies so that my business will be successful financially and reputation wise. Also, work induced stress is very real so one must know what tools are available to help reduce or eliminate it. For example, when I find my self getting frustrated at work due to the my job duties, the public and the overall environment I do a few things. The first I take a couple deep breaths then find a quiet room. If that doesn't work I take a walk around the building or outside. Secondly, I try doing a different task to break up the monotony. Thirdly, I put in a request to leave early or put in annual leave. Lastly, I try to talk to someone a fellow coworker, family, friend or medical professional on the employee assistance line.

How can you apply course concepts to your everyday life?

Incorporating classroom concepts into everyday life is really a necessity if you think about it. If you are going to talk the talk you need to walk the walk. Application and reinforcement of what is learned can only help anyone excel in whatever managerial or workplace position is held as well as a member of society.

Changing a behavior is about consistency. The more often we do something, the more instinctive it will become and the more improved we will get at it. Think about working at it as often as possible, but not doing it perfectlydoes not mean you are not getting it, whatever it is.

One of the first steps is recognizing our limiting thoughts, beliefs, and stories. The next part is replacing them with empowering ones. As I stated above, walking the walk is more than playing the part, retraining the brain to be better is learning how to apply whatever you learn, starting with small doses and soon becoming the teacher rather than the student.

Once you identify the things that keep you stuck, if you can pause those triggers of past experiences so that they do not set you back and you find yourself starting over, thus settling back into one’s comfort zone of behaviors, diminishing any growth or education that was earned. If this happens, pick up or reread any of the course concepts and remind yourself what you have learned and start the application process once again. Soon muscle memory will kick in and you are on your way.

During this course, I printed out the course summaries for each module, these were reminders of what was read and its key points, it helped with discussion questions. Not everything we learn can be applied to everyday life, but hey, it’s a great start in creating a better you.

I agree with you about the importance of organizational behaviour since it is
one of the most important aspects we have to consider at work, whether it is for our own business or while holding a position in some other organization. Understanding the concepts of Organizational behaviour helps us understand the way organizations behave and react to situations thereby making us better at creating adjusting as well as creating a good organizational culture (Liao, & Wu, 2010). The point you mention regarding leadership goals and business strategies is very important too. This is because a great part of success of an organization culture is reliant on successful leadership, alignment to goals and eventually the strategies used by the leader. Regarding...
