Assessment Event number 2 of 3 Instructions for this assessment This is a project-based assessment that assesses your knowledge and performance of the unit. This assessment is in four (4) parts: 1. Planning and Preparation – Task 1 to Task 8 2. Presenting and Approving the Operational Plan – Task 1 to Task 3 including Observation Checklist 3. Implementation and Resource Acquisition – Task 1 to Task 5 4. Assessment Checklist And is supported by: · Assessment Feedback Submission instructions On completion of this assessment, you are required to submit it to your Teacher/Assessor for marking. Ensure you have included your name at the bottom of each page of documents you submit. It is important that you keep a copy of all electronic and hardcopy assessments submitted to TAFE and complete the assessment declaration when submitting the assessment. What do I need to do to achieve a satisfactory result? To achieve a satisfactory result for this assessment you must answer all the questions correctly. If a resit is required to achieve a satisfactory result it will be conducted at an agreed time after a suitable revision period. What do I need to provide? · TAFE NSW student account username and password. If you do not know your username and password, contact your campus or service centre on 131601. · Computer or other device with word processing software and internet access · Writing materials, if required · Software of your choice to develop a Gantt chart – such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Primavera Project Planner or Midview. This assessment will be completed in the students own time. Supervision This is an unsupervised, take-home assessment. Your Teacher/Assessor may ask for additional evidence to verify the authenticity of your submission and confirm that the assessment task was completed by you. You may access your referenced text, learning notes and other resources. Assessment feedback, review or appeals In accordance with the TAFE NSW policy Manage Assessment Appeals, all students have the right to appeal an assessment decision in relation to how the assessment was conducted and the outcome of the assessment. Appeals must be lodged within 14 working days of the formal notification of the result of the assessment. If you would like to request a review of your results or if you have any concerns about your results, contact your Teacher/Assessor or Head Teacher. Assessment outline: · This assessment requires the student to complete the following: · PART 1: Planning and Preparation · PART 2: Presenting and Approving the Operational Plan · PART 3: Implementation and Resource Acquisition · PART 4: Assessment Checklist · You are required to read each of the scenarios below and then choose one (1) to apply to this assessment. The option chosen will form the basis of their entire project assessment for Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4. Scenario Option 1 A local large café has been in highly successful operation for over 100 years. The kitchen and dining area was fully refurbished 2 years ago and the café is now licenced. It has a casual atmosphere, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves a simple but popular menu. A multi-national chain restaurant has just opened in the same neighbourhood. Since the restaurant opened there appears to be a decline of regular customers at the café. The café manager sends staff to visit the restaurant and they notice: · There a large number of the regular customers from the café. · There is a new restaurant serving an extensive menu. · There is a choice of indoor/outdoor eating areas · The floor plan is open and welcoming with fresh décor The café manager decides there is a need to innovate and introduce a new concept. The general strategy/aim for improvement or innovation. Should include areas such as: · Increasing Profit · Increasing Sales · Increasing Customer Count · Increasing Repeat Clients Ideas for focus area: Wine bar, Cocktail bar, Brew house, Tapas menu, Pizza bar, Outdoor dining precinct, Kids play facility, Smokehouse food truck. As the café manager, you are required to develop, implement an Operational Plan for this new improvement to the cafe’s business model. Option 2 A small Motel in Port Macquarie located one block back from the beach. This has been the family business for the past 15 years. The Motel consists of 22 rooms, 14 which are suitable for families. All rooms at the Motel have kitchenette facilities only. Recently a new holiday apartment block has just opened up across the road which has 44 holiday apartments (1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments). All apartments are self-contained with full kitchen and laundry facilities for holiday makers, and perfect for families. Business for the Motel has started to decline and the motel is looking tied. As the owner of the Motel, you are required to introduce an improvement or innovation in order to remain competitive and keep up with customer demands. The general strategy/aim for your improvement or innovation. Should include areas such as: · Increasing Profit · Increasing Sales · Increasing Occupancy · Increasing Repeat Clients Ideas for focus area: Expansions of kitchen facility, laundry, games room and family fun space, function room for meetings. As the Motel owner you are required to develop, implement an Operational Plan for this new improvement or innovation to the Motel’s business model. Option 3 Alternately you may base this assessment event on your own innovation or improvement for your place of work. The scenario for your workplace must include a minimum of three (3) of the following elements: · Increasing profit · Reduce costs · Increasing customer patronage · Increasing repeat clients · Increasing sustainability · Reduce wastage · Improving workplace efficiency When selecting this option you must discuss it with your assessor and gain their approval prior to commencing the assessment task. Part 1: Planning and preparation Your Operational Plan must include all of the information from PART 1, Task 1 to Task 8. Task 1 – Business Focus 1.1 Prior to commencing the project, you must outline the scope and nature of your Operational Plan as chosen from the scenario. You must provide the focus area for the improvement or innovation. Task 2 – Objectives and Strategies 2.1 Outline a minimum of five (5) key SMART goals/objectives of the Operational Plan. 2.2 Identify five (5) strategies/activities required to achieve the planned goals/objectives. Task 3 – Identify and Research Resource Needs 3.1 Consider each of the following resources required: Human, Financial, Technology, Materials, Equipment, Facilities and Services. Conduct your own research and provide a documented description of the resources you will require to achieve your goals/ objectives as applicable to the Operational Plan. Your research must be thorough and ensure that you access a range of sources of information, including: · internet · local businesses · potential suppliers · clients, co-workers, other stakeholders · Specialist resource manager, i.e. Operations manager, HR manager, Recruitment agency, Local Council, Procurement Manager, Accountant You must reference your sources of information.
