Business Plan of My Vision Instructor Miss Aman East-west College Student Name Mohammad Araibi Student ID 21-BA-09-WK-1577 Problem Statement The biggest challenge for a blind person, especially the one with complete loss of vision, is to navigate around places. Obviously, blind people roam easily around their house without any help because they know the position of everything in the house. However, I believe sometimes they will still run into issues roaming around the house, such as running to objects and obstacles that were not supposed to be there in which can cause harm to the impaired individual. Key facts Globally, at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment. In at least 1 billion – or almost half – of these cases, vision impairment could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed. The leading causes of vision impairment and blindness are uncorrected refractive errors and cataracts. People who are completely blind or have impaired vision usually have a difficult time navigating outside the spaces that they're accustomed to. In fact, physical movement is one of the biggest challenges for blind people, explains World Access for the Blind. Traveling or merely walking down a crowded street can be challenging. Blindness in Canada Today, an estimated 1.5 million Canadians identify themselves as having a sight loss. An estimated 5.59 million more have an eye disease that could cause sight loss. Here, you’ll find key statistics about blindness and its impact from coast to coast, from Canadian Survey on Disabilities 2017. Canada’s current population is 37.74 million people. Globally, it is estimated that at least 2.2 billion people have a vision impairment or blindness, of whom at least 1 billion have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed. Out of 7.9 billion worldwide. Executive Summary The ultimate objective of this paper is to create a mobile app for the blind which will help visually impaired people to get voice assistance while accessing texts, emails, phone calls over smartphones. Further, we will prepare a business app that will provide the product details, the mode of operations, the funds necessary for building this app, and the modes of acquisition of the funds for the app development. At first, we will try to develop a business plan, then provide the technology which will be used in the app, and finally the funding process so that there is no unnecessary trial and error required for the business operations as it might ruin the business idea. The concept and idea behind this are to reduce the challenges faced by blind people. This business plan gives details of the product, operations, fund need, and disposition of funds for the development of this App. The first and foremost activity while setting up a business is the preparation of the business plan. Without a proper business plan, if one starts a business, a lot of trial and error may occur in the business process which may result in the collapse of the business idea. However, I believe this is worth time and money in order to help people in their daily lives to live happily and independently. The biggest challenge for a blind person, especially the one with complete loss of vision, is to navigate around places. Obviously, blind people roam easily around their house without any help because they know the position of everything in the house. Introduction It was Louis Braille who was blind at the age of three. As he grew up, he decided to invent a system of raised dots that enables a blind person or with low vision to read with the help of fingers. It is a code of many languages like English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, etc. This language is used by many people globally. Gradually with the development of computer software programming, a portable electronic braille device has been invented. Now it’s time to develop a new mobile app that will help the visually impaired blind and short-sighted people for visual assistance through a live video call. This video call will be buoyed with the most advanced mobile technology where the visually impaired person will be able to take assistance from the volunteers whenever one needs visual assistance. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), it necessitates that all telecommunication manufacturers must make products and services which can be easily accessible by the people with disabilities in the United States. The mobile phone manufacturers and the app companies are trying to bank on this by targeting the disabled people with an app that will assist them in all stages of their lives i.e.; to approximately 135 million with low vision as per a report published by the National Eye Institute (National Eye Institute; 2015). We as an app company situated in Canada will develop a mobile app especially for the visually impaired and low-visioned people. The name of this mobile app will be “My Vision”. This app will have varied features through the use of voice technology on smartphones. This will make feel the blind people feel to be using similar technology on smartphones like everyone. Further, the company will make feel that there is someone who has empathy and feelings towards blind people. This will ultimately help blind people to become independent and conduct their work successfully without others’ assistance. Description of the Product The mobile app – “My Vision” will be to assist visually impaired people. This is a great initiative towards the creation of a low-vision mobile portal. The mobile app will be very simple and will connect with blind users through smartphones, messages, contacts, and notes. The app will have many options for its customization which can be added or removed from the screen. There will be other features like the contrast of the color, sizes of the icons, voice swiftness which can be easily adjusted by blind people. And will be able to use their phone camera for scanning items, thusly allowing the impaired person to know what the item is in color shape, and form. Further, the app will comply with the standards set by the Information technology Act for the low vision people. Further, there will be a portal available on the mobile, it can be easily accessible by blind people. This is because there can be many apps in the portal which is segregated into several categories and are not easy for low visioned people to recognize the specific apps and use them. Also, the portal will assist blind people to identify the best apps so that they can facilitate, support the users to detect and use them prudently. The best example which can be used for the development of this app is during the blind people’s crossing a sliding ramp used instead of steps for drifting from one place to another. It will be extremely difficult for blind or disabled people to cross the sliding ramp without anyone’s assistance. The alternative route that can be used for assisting the blind people to cross the sliding ramp independently will be the construction of an alternative route that will have a low slope so that the blind or the disabled people do not fall and are able to easily cross. This design will be translated for designing the mobile apps which can be used by visually impaired people. There will be a “voice over’ feature and a figure of the sliding ramp contained within the app which can be accessed by iPhone and iPad devices. This feature will act as an additional feature to the mobile app designed especially for visually impaired people. The various features that are available on the mobile app which will be developed by our company will be phone contacts, short messaging services, alarm, calendar, email, GPS location indictor, email, and battery life. Further, there is a special feature which is known as the ‘text to speech parameter’ where any text which appears will be pronounced through voices. This will help blind people to easily do the tasks with the assistance of the app rather than any physical help from an abled individual. The app will be only used for the purpose of a blind or low visioned person whenever there is the necessity of visual assistance. It will be customer care executives who will be happy to assist on a 24/7 basis. The blind or the disabled people only need to dial the emergency number available on their smartphones and will be directed to a video call. The customer care executive will volunteer, communicate with the blind and resolve the problem. Further, it will be the executive who will help the blind person by guiding which direction they need to point the camera, what to focus on and when the torch needs to be switched on (Be my eyes; 2021). Vision Statement We provide innovative and most effective software that can help adjust people with blindness to change what it means to be blind and enables them to discover a new self-image, which allows them to build a future that can change humanity and change blindness the way of living life in our society. Mission Statement The ultimate objective of this mobile app – “My Vision” will help people who are visually impaired and with low vision to access globally and see the world through this app. Further, this can only be achieved only with the assistance and dedicated cooperation of the This will enable the blind people to lead an independent life daily through the assistance of the sighted employees by lending their eyes and intellectual ability for resolution of big and small tasks of the blind people. Product Concept As per the report published by the World Health Organization, there are more than 40 million people in the world who are visually impaired or is having short-sightedness. Further, there are another 250 million in the world who suffer from visual impairment. These may be due to various diseases and age-related issues like glaucoma as well as diabetes. The numbers are rising especially for the aged population on a regular basis in various countries like Europe, the USA, and the UK (Michael Proulx; 2021). According to another report, published by the WHO it was discovered that there are at least 2.2 billion people who suffer from near or distant visual impairment. If proper assistance has been provided to these people around half of these 1 billion people’s visual impairment could have been prohibited if it was addressed early. The unaddressed near vision impairment was more than 80% among the people living in western, eastern, central, and sub-Saharan Africa. On the contrary, around 10% of the people with a high level of income suffer from near vision impairment and are from Australia, Western Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America. The reasons for visual impairment may be due to cataracts, age-related issues, trachoma, diabetes, uncorrected refractive errors, glaucoma, and corneal opacity. Further, the issues
