Subject: BSBSUS501 – Develop Workplace Policy and Procedures for Sustainability Deadline: 23 Oct 2020 Word count: 1,500 words Project 1 · Design and develop a proposal for improved sustainability practices in the organisation for which you work or intend to work. You might address a specific issue or a total environmental management process. Queensland State the industry sector in which the organisation operates, the issues or practices to be addressed and develop and document a proposal that could be submitted, for approval, to senior management. Include in your proposal: · a clear description of the current situation, the desired situation and the identified gaps—reasons for making changes or improvements (including compliance with continuous improvement requirements)—the benefits—including the ability to utilise the new practices (social, economic or physical environment impacts) as a competitive edge · a description of the research conducted and information gathered to justify the need for the proposal · information about consultations government agencies (legislation and regulations) to identify compliance requirements · considerations of the organisational culture that would support or act as a barrier to improved management and monitoring of sustainability · organisational policies that currently support sustainability practices and any identified need for changes, adjustments or new policies · a description of the procedures that would be followed to implement the proposal, the required outcomes, performance indicators and procedures that would be followed to monitor implementation · any costs associated with the proposal—this includes the cost of not going ahead with the proposal Develop and document an action plan—to indicate who would be responsible for the different parts of the improvement process, time frames/ deadlines. A communication training and education plan to indicate how and when employees and other relevant stakeholders will receive information about the proposal and about their input and responsibilities. Describe the procedures that would follow to track the progress of the sustainability practices and to document and report on the outcomes. Thi Ha Thu NguyenBSBSUS501 IIQ00002FY The following project aims to discuss the implementation of the treatment method for wasted water management related to the production of oil and gas. Wasted water management is always a concern in the hospitality industry. The benefit of the implementation of the project aims to contribute to the environment with the reduction of water waste. In turn, the benefit to the organization will be the reduction in energy expenditure and commitment to the environment, which generates a better vision of the organization by the stakeholders and customers. Organizational ethics reflect on the effects of products/services, relationships with stakeholders (including employees) and with relationships between the organization and its environment. Introduction Operations of oil industries generate direct consequences on the environment, among which air emissions, liquid effluents and solid and hazardous wastes. In recent years, these industries have begun to worry about environmental issues, seeking to minimize the impacts on the environment, communities and people. Among the major proposed strategies are the Environmental Management Systems (EMS), whose application improves the environmental performance of enterprises and achieve their economic goals as it focuses on the pursuit of sustainable development under an eco-efficient scheme. Internationally one of the advantages of controlling the problems of pollution is the improvement of the competitiveness of the company and the placement of its products in the market in advantageous positions. This paper reviews some environmental strategies adopted by oil companies considered as leaders in the international arena. It is concluded that only those companies whose management or board is committed to the purposes stated in their policy have been able to apply the proposed systems. Not enough to make the decision to develop a certifiable system, it must be assumed as a fundamental part of the business under strict control and constant improvement can become key to increasing productivity and competitiveness of the company. Sustainability development One of the main concerns nowadays during the oil and gas production stage is the use of water. The oil industry uses a large quantity of water during the drilling and completion of an unconventional gas well. In many of the shale plays each well needs in excess of 4 million gallons of water (100,000 bbl) during the drilling and completions operations. Water is a precious resource and many areas are faced with water shortages. Currently in the world for each barrel of crude produced around 3 to 5 barrels of water, therefore, one of the biggest problems in the industry is the treatment and handling of production water. This problem has become a benchmark for the project both financially and environmentally, due, first, to the high costs generated by water treatment and management processes and, secondly, to the high content of ions dissolved in the water that can be harmful to both the fauna and the flora, as well as to the human being. Project overview Zeolites have been tested and recognized as the most efficient natural materials for soil improvement, odor control, water treatment, among other uses, being also a completely friendly mineral with the environment. Zeolite is a mineral of volcanic origin whose characteristics make it very important today. Its stability, ion exchange capacity and water absorption, as well as its easy extraction and transport make it very useful. The properties of zeolite make it an excellent substitute in several uses. It does not altered, it is chemically innocuous, it does not pollute and it is clean. Waters treated with zeolites require much less chemicals in their treatment, the process is more economical, simple and easy to control, the general quality of the water visibly improves compared to traditional methods. Liquid and solid wastes treated with zeolite lose their contaminating elements and less affect their interaction with nature, improving their capacity to be recycled and incorporated into production processes. Water treatment plants based on Zeolite used have proved to be more efficient than regular treatments used nowadays, especially because of their low initial cost of investment, as well as don’t need as much space to their construction as regular plants, which concludes in low energy consumption rates and lower cost of maintenance. Project eligibility: A small-scale zeolite-based water treatment facility will enhanced on field practices. Already heavily focused on environmental sustainability, the organization will benefit from the designs efficiency but there is also the potential to alleviate some of the water consumption stress of current methods of cleaning. Innovation of just one process opens the door for better water treatment practices and a continued improvement towards enhanced sustainability methods. This design solution would benefit the Oil and Gas industry but also the production of natural resources. Timeframe: Project commencement date: 20th September 2020 · Purchase of water treatment equipment (Tanks, Separators, Zeolite mineral) · Integration of the water treatment facilities. · Testing and further optimization. Project completion date: 15th July 2021 Performance indicators: The success of the zeolite based water treatment facility project will rest on the design team’s and the client’s positive interactions. Good communication is essential this project’s success. Understanding and working together is crucial to developing a feasible long-term solution. Resource management will play a large part in the development of a feasible solution; this will involve exchange of information to be integrated into our project, and other relevant matters. Ideally we want to improve water treatment sustainability methods by improve efficiencies and low costs. Therefore, logistics management will be an imperative performance factor to the success of this project. Benefits: The outcome of this project helps to enhance the treatment of water related to the oil and gas production faster and more efficiently and at a cost benefit rate ideal for this kind of projects, or at least to low cost involve in the process. If successful, we hope this system can be implemented in different mining and extraction activities, areas that consume high rates of water and are related to high rates of pollution. Project Implementation Type of Activity - Task Estimated Time- Member Responsible 1. Purchase of equipment: This means the purchase of all the equipment involve in the water treatment plant (Tanks, Separators, Filters, Zeolite Mineral) Time: 2 Months Members responsible: Site project engineer, Structural engineer consultant. 2.
