The introduction provides a context for the research. This section should include the following: 1) Description of the current state of knowledge or understanding at the beginning of your investigation (i.e., background information synthesized from the existing literature – think about what information readers would need to know to be able to understand your lab report; 2) Background information about study species used and why it was used for this study; 3) The purpose of the experiment and/or the question being asked; 4) Hypothesis/hypotheses written as statements; 5) Brief description of the approach being used to test your hypothesis/hypotheses statement; 6) Predictions written as explanatory statements (“If…then”) that focus only on experimental treatment groups (not controls) and are backed up with relevant references. Materials and Methods [Page limit – 1/2 – 1 page] The purpose of this section is to describe the experimental procedures, including any controls. This section should be written in the past tense (and first-person if applicable); the remainder of the paper should be written in the present tense. The description should be complete enough to allow someone to repeat your work. The Methods section should describe the chronological process that was used to complete the research, how all of the data was collected, and a short description of the statistical analyses you completed. It should be written in complete sentences, not bulleted lists. Be certain to include any software used to produce graphs and analyze data (e.g., Excel, GraphPad). Abstract: Drought is one of the major challenge faced during the agr
iculture production. Plant can respond through structural changes such reduced stomata and elongated roots during drought conditions. In this study we selected three mutant strains of Arabidopsis thaliana because it’s small life cycle; Ler-0, aba1-1 and abi1-1. The effect of the drought conditions upon the phenotypic characters such as height and weight of these mutant strains were studied. It was found that the drought conditions favours the height and weight of the aba1-1 strain but the weight and height of other two strains were lower than the control group. Aba1-1 must manifest an alternative defence mechanism in order to overcome the stress caused by drought conditions.

Introduction
Plant growth , morphology, weight etc. are generally measured to see the effect of any environmental stress such as temperature, salt concentration, drought etc (Harb et al., 2010). Drought has become one of the major concern of agriculture and production. It directly or indirectly affects the growth and plant development. Because of the climate change and global warming, more regions of the world are experiencing the climatic effects due to drought and flooding. Plant responses towards the stress caused by drought are complex as different varieties of plants have different mechanism or sensitivity towards the avoidance and tolerance of drought to maintain the growth. For example, by sensing the drought conditions a plant may flower earlier than usual. In other cases, during drought conditions plants can respond through structural changes such reduced stomata and elongated roots. Environmental stressors such as drought can have significant negative effects on our food supply. The ability to produce crops that are adapted to drought conditions could increase the amount of land available for food production.
In our study, we have used Arabidopsis thaliana as our model organism to study the effect of drought stress response on plant height and above ground fresh weight. A. thaliana is a small plant and the first to have its genome completely sequenced. It belongs to the family Brassicaceae. We selected three mutant strains of A.thaliana; Ler-0, aba1-1 and abi1-1. In Landsberg erecta (Ler-0), mutation was induced using X-ray in ERECTA gene. In aba1-1 strain, the Ler-0 was mutated using a chemical mutagen EMS, which targets the gene involved in biosynthesis of Abscisic Acid (ABA). In abi1-1 strain, the mutation in Ler-0 caused the loss of sensitivity towards the ABA. It will be able to produce the ABA but would not be able to respond. ABA has been reported in abundant amount during water shortage as it induces the stomata closure and prevents the transpiration (Yang et al., 2011)In this study, 27 samples for both control and drought plants were selected for each strain and the height and weight of the plants were measured after 7 weeks. We concluded that the drought conditions affected the height and weight of the Ler-0 and abi1-1 in a negative way but in aba1-1, the drought conditions increased the mean height and weight of the 27 plants of treated group compare to control group.
Materials and Methods
Collection and Sterilization of seeds:
The seeds were collected from source labs in two 1.5ml centrifuge tubes, one for control treatment and another for experimental treatment. For sterilization, the seeds were washed with 0.5ml of 30% bleach and incubated for 3 minutes. Then, the bleach was removed, and the seeds were washed with 200μl of distilled water twice.
