    Special Topics, Civil Dissidence In America and the World.


    Examine the the social phenomena of civil dissidence. In America and in numerous countries around the world, demonstrations and protests have erupted in major cities. As Criminologists, we will attempt to "make sense" of these forms of civil dissidence and discern the meaning behind the actions. As we try to understand the "who, what, where & why" behind the social unrest, patterns of governmental policy and the public reaction to these policies will become more clear. Are the boundaries of social tolerance being tested/stretched? Is the change that is ushered in reflective of the greater society as a whole? When does civil protest become a criminal act? Has Anarchy simply taken hold and is it attempting to destroy social order?


    Your paper may focus on either the "macro or micro" view of this issue. You may look at specific incidents or concentrate on the similarities between America's protests/riots and those of other countries. Make your points clear and your comparisons accurate. (2-3 pages)

    Introduction
        The dissent of people is one of the primary factors that strengthen the democratic structure of the nation (Young, 2008). In fact
    , various Civil Obedience across globe—Including United States—have proved that people have to confront the existing government in order to protest for the reservation and procurement of their human rights (Young, 2008). In the aftermath of World War II in America, the need for protecting the rights of black people came upfront to the government; the racial discrimination became an evil that needed formal abolition. However, what makes the Civil Obedience, its core value across global movement, is the way in which, the movement progressed. It is always nonviolent because the term ‘civil’ refers not to violate the law and order in order to force government to give consent for the rights of people.
    American Civil Disobedience
        At first, it is noteworthy here that the onset of American Civil Obedience is marked by the late 1950s in the aftermath of the World War II. The slavery tradition was over but still, in the roots of society, there was racial bias in the mentality of people. The blacks were deprived of having fundamental human rights like casting votes and having usual employments for living. Revocation of the favorable policies on behalf of the government encouraged general public dissent especially in the context of black people and it set the ideal platform for the Civil War in 1960s.
