Marcus,

As we consider factors Sofia will face, one of them is production. In your comments you indicated, "India is one of the fastest-growing economies globally and provides high-quality solutions and IT infrastructure with the latest technology. These factors are enough to contemplate the positive cultural sides for Flora to pursue her outsourcing and expansion plants in India."

IT might be on the cutting edge, but without production parameters in place, will Sofia produce the same product or better product with reduced costs. Luo and Fang (2019) described high attrition rates, from a production side, how might this affect her potential decision to expand to India?

Sofia Chan is an owner of a company that manufactures high-fashion eyewear sold directly to U.S. wholesalers that then distribute these products in stores throughout the country. Her company is in a small mid-western town and employs many residents. Sofia has been considering outsourcing the manufacturing of the lenses for the sunglasses to another country and is evaluating whether she should enter the global marketplace with her products. She is uncertain of the impact this move might have on her organization and her leadership of the organization. She would like you to help her explore the strategic advantages and disadvantages of expanding globally.

In an initial post of at least 350 words or more and citing at least two required resources:

  • Discuss the impact an outsourcing decision might have on Sofia’s organization and her leadership of the organization.

I feel like outsourcing can help Sofia’s organization and her leadership in the organization. She could stand out and ulrimately help the company expand and grow beyond its horizons of whats forseen and like it states in Seemann, P., & Stofkova, Z. (2021).Impacts of globalization and conflicts on business performance and possibilities of its solution(Links to an external site.)

Creating Customer Value on a Global Scale

Sustainable profit and growth requires that companies now turn the challenges imposed by rapid change into new opportunities to create and deliver value to their customers. The question for most business leaders will be how to do it globally. Traditional business leaders whose organizations are based on execution, order, and control will find it difficult competing with an agile global leader whose organization is team-driven, adaptable, innovative and conducive to speed of both individuals and ideas. Global organizations are flatter, culturally diverse, and borderless with more specialization based on the team model where operational rules and differentiation are based on talent making them better able to compete globally. The result is a leadership focused on capability, action, and creativity.

I feel the article is spot on whern it states, “If today’s business leader can change their perspective to address the needs of a globalized world, then they are on the right track to success. The bottom line is that the leader with the most knowledge and innovation will win in global competition.”

  • Identify the strategic advantages and disadvantages of global expansion.

Advantages:

Like it states in Lumen Learning (n.d.).
Module 14: Marketing globally(Links to an external site.)

  • Creates opportunties for many countries to experience economic growth

  • Economic grwoth increases amount of goods and services over time

  • The most significant marketing opportunties exist among the industrialized nations, as they have higher levels of income, one of the nesscessary ingrediants for the formation of markets

Disadvantages: ike it states in Seemann, P., & Stofkova, Z. (2021).Impacts of globalization and conflicts on business performance and possibilities of its solution(Links to an external site.)

There are two main forces that underlie the globalization of markets:

  1. Falling barriers to trade and investment

  2. Technological innovation.

These two conditions are increasing competition among nations, companies and individuals. Global leaders understand this and have determined what business models are now required to win market share and to take action to stay competitive.

They know that it is now possible to produce more goods and services with fewer people and to shift work anywhere in the world and have done so. They also realize that in order to succeed they have to understand and use new methods of innovation and technology designed for fast-change, uncertainty and complexity brought on by instant communications, collaboration, and a mobile workforce. They use the knowledge and tools to bypass their competitors who have become inflexible, complacent, and unable to compete.

I felt like these were disadvantages because these can hinder how we do buiness overseas.

  • Predict the challenges Sofia would face as a leader doing trade in another country.

I feel like Sofias challenges she woulf face as a leader doing trade in another country is the backlash she could recieve because she isnt doing the trading within her own country and people may lose their jobs or benefits because they dont have that opportuntity anymore. Like the article Lumen Learning (n.d.).
Module 14: Marketing globally(Links to an external site.)
goes into, critics and long term feasiability of profits comes into the equation. Crtics also raise concern over damage to the environment, decreased food safety, unethcal labor practices in sweatshops, increased consumerism and the weakening of tradtional cultural values.

  • Review how the decision will impact the employees of the organization.

I feel like the decison would definitely impact employees of the organization because they could lose their own job for outsourcing to other countries which would make it worse for them in the long run.

  • Make a case for or against outsourcing and entering the global marketplace, supporting your recommendations with the literature.

I am in between for outsourcing, on one hand you have a way to make more product, have more services for the company, technologies can be expanded, medicines and knowledge are readily available and it can reach a larger consumer spand for the company thus more growth more benefits in the long run.

On the other hand you have people here in our own country starving for jobs wanting to work but cant because we outsourcre, which in turn some outsourcing do have those weaker standards of workforce practices from living conditions, cultural aspects and even nothaving the laws in palce like we do for labor laws; so children could even be working and they could only be working for pennies on the dollar.

I feel like its a double edged sword. Either way will have both a good and bad alternative.

Globalization refers to the process of gradually erasing the borders of nation-states, and economic globalization is the culmination of this process (Seeman, 2021). Globalization interconnects economics around the world. Globalization is a massive transition that is centered regionally or nationally. The dimensions of globalization relate to economy, manufacturing, employment trade, immigration and outsourcing and globalization. Leadership within globalization must begin to develop a global mindset. The ability for Sofia to begin to think of outsourcing into the global market she would need to change her thinking. A global mindset requires Sofia to begin to realize and research the world economy rather than her own individual country economies. Sofia would require understanding of the importance with individualism versus collectivism within the workplace. Sofia’s focus should be wealth creation, organizational value, and providing exceptional value to her customers. These tasks will catapult Sofia outside of her own comfort zone for her market position and create a greater opportunity for her workers and team. Global leaders develop business models that take action. Sofia would need to research different methods of innovation and technology. Sofia’s flexibility and competitiveness within her industry would ease some of the challenges of outsourcing.

The importance of Sofia to recognize the value that is being distributed to the customers also creates new opportunities. It would aid Sofia to create and implement a team model where operational rules and differentiation that are based on talent making them better able to compete globally. Capability, action, and creativity should be the execution of Sofia’s outsourcing of her company. Sophia should develop ethical standards and public relations that capital expenditures necessary to create the momentum that Sofia will need for this transition. Sophia’s development of a leader team should consist of leaders that have high intercultural competence, also becoming educated and informed on the legal and regulatory structures that will help Sofia understand the laws and act in accordance with regulations.

Some of the disadvantages for the expansion would be the shift of the pace of change. The challenges of infrastructure of the different countries would assist Sofia in understanding the financial systems, property rights, and judicial system. It would be also imperative for Sofia to have the technology literacy to facilitate planning, implementation, and control (Kalenyuk, 2019). The achievement of leadership positions and the change of rules and methods of competition in highly competitive conditions requires leadership of multilevel. These all must be considered to further intellectualization of global economic processes.

Hello class,

As a business owner, Sophia sees opportunity in her high-fashion eyeware and believes she can take it global to outsource the manufacturing of the lenses for the sunglasses to another country. She is smart to assess how this might affect her organization and what the impacts are of expansion. The impact for Sophia may be the ability to grow globally and increase revenue/profits with decreased manufacturing costs. Her leadership will need to grow with the expansion, moving into a more overarching global view, rather than a localized view of her current geographic location. She will need to learn to work with her global partners.

This is not just something Sophia should do without careful consideration. There are advantages and disadvantages of global expansion. The globalization will bring more eyes to her product and allow her to reduce costs with increased production. This doesn't come without risk. Sophia will need to understand that global expansion brings new dependencies on other country obstacles and challenges. There are cultural differences to consider and country relations at play. Not only this, but other countries conduct work differently and her approach to leadership will need to flex and change depending on who she is working with. Sophia may face challenges that don't allow her to do the same business as a woman that the U.S. does. She nay find that tit's difficult to find a partner and establish trust with that partner. She can also face employee/sourcing differences and concerns from the company she partners with.

For the existing employees of the organization, Sophia will need to begin with over-communication to her existing teams. This is a big undertaking and affects her staff directly. It may provide opportunities for growth for her existing employees and will challenge then in new and interesting ways.

Sophia is in a good position to begin outsourcing and as long as she is strategic in the planning of her attempt, she can thoughtfully consider global expansion at a pace that is comfortable for her and her teams. A global marketplace will allow her new opportunities that she just wouldn't have in a small, hometown, geolocation. The visibility, expansion, and opportunity to save money, make more profit, and grow is an upside for her.

    Hi,
I really like your representation of the issue and understand the fact that Sophia needs to manufacture quality product at reduced cost if she wants to enter the Indian market. India is flourishing in technology but giving chance to the domestic labours to improve their business after the COVID pandemic. According to Sahoo and Ashwani (2020), the Indian Government has increased their tariffs for international trade. I feel, this will affect Sophia’s business expansion in India as import and export of products will require more charges and provide less profit to the business. This will impact the decision of expanding in India but reducing the production cost can attain a minimum profitability. The reduction of the sale price will also help the business of Sophia to get identified in the global market which will increase the sales and produce profit after a particular time period.
