Introduction Many studies have confirmed that long term health and success of any organization depends on retention of its valuable employees particularly in the face of globalization and technological advancement (Das & Baruah, 2013; Tamunomiebi & Okwakpam, 2019). Therefore, the topic of employee retention has increasingly become important to today’s organizations due to development of knowledge as a key corporate asset (Bairi, Manohar, & Kundu, 2011). Prior studies have discussed influencing factors of employee retention or turnover intention from the aspect of leadership styles and behaviours (Mwita, Mwakasangula, & Tefurkwa, 2018). Servant leadership emphasizes service and gives main concern to satisfaction of employees’ needs (Van Dierendonck, 2011; Hoch, Bommer, Dulebohn, & Wu, 2018). Some of the researches argues that servant leadership have negative impact on turnover intention and helps to reduce employees’ turnover intention in organization (Dutta & Khatri, 2017; Jang & Kandampully, 2018). Similarly, the findings of Kashyap and Rangnekar (2014) study suggested that servant leadership not only improve employee retention but also enhance employees’ job performance and their contribution for organization. Hence, it can be argued that servant leadership is likely to have significant positive impact on employee retention and negative impact on turnover intention. 2. Justification for research This study is intended to justify some distinct reasons for conducting the research. Firstly, study of servant leadership is under researched topic in hospitality literature (Brownell, 2010; Wu, Eliza, Pingping, Kwan, & Jun, 2013). Lapointe and Vandenberghe (2018) found that servant leaders impact the relational bond between employees and their firm, creating a positive environment that builds a sense of obligation by the employee to the firm and a keen understanding of the costs of quitting the job. Hence, Australian hospitality industry can employ servant leadership principles in their operations to gain competitive advantage of retaining valuable employees and reduce direct and indirect cost of employee turnover. Second, there is very limited study of motivational practices as a mediator in between servant leadership and employee retention. Hence, a research proposition is suggested; motivational practice act as mediator between servant leadership and employee retention (Chon & Zoltan, 2019). To fill this research gap intrinsic motivation is presented as mediator in between servant leadership and employee retention. 3. Review of Literature 3.1 Servant Leadership The idea of servant leadership was first introduced by Robert K. Greenleaf in the article “The servant as leaders” where he posited that leader must see himself/herself as servant at first (Greenleaf, 1977). Hence, the essential reason for servant leadership should be the aspiration to serve others. Many related attributes of servant leadership were identified by different scholars and researchers (Spears, 1995; Russell & Stone, 2002; Patterson, 2003; Dennis & Bocarnea, 2005). Some of the scholars (Sendjaya, Sarros, & Santora, 2008) presented the six attributes of servant leadership which are voluntary subordination, authentic self, covenantal relationship, responsible morality, transcendental spirituality, and transforming influence. 3.2 Employee Retention The concept of employee retention started in 1970’s and early 1980’s as dramatic change in job mobility and voluntary job changes lead to the problem situation of employee turnover for organizations (McKeown, 2002). In Human Resource Management literature the concept of employee retention has been discussed a lot and now its importance has been highly increased in organizational context due to growth of knowledge as a key corporate asset (Horn & Griffeth, 1995; Bairi, et al., 2011). Employee retention has a long-term positive impact on organization whereas failure to retain employees leads to the situation of negative impact on organization. 3.3 Intrinsic Motivation The theoretical framework of Deci and Ryan’s (1985), Self Determination Theory (SDT) profoundly explained the concept of intrinsic motivation. The theory is concerned with the beneficial impact of intrinsic motivation through the means of inherent satisfaction. Chapter 4: Evidence and Data Analysis
4.1 Introduction
In our sample 106 respondents were included. The proposed sample size for this research will be 106. To examine relationships according to Green (1991) no less than 50 participants for correlation or regression with the increasing number of large numbers of explanatory variables. So, as per Green’s (1991) the minimum acceptable sample size for multiple regression is,

Moreover, the targeted population would be full time, part time, and casual staff to provide equal opportunity to all types of staff and to get access to unbiased results with a minimum of six months of work experience. The standard of six month is set to ensure they have better knowledge about organizational culture and their relationship with their leaders. And the sampling method for this study will be non-probability convenience sampling.
There will be use of potential measures (instruments) to measure each variable. The instruments for measuring servant leadership will consist of 14 items taken from Ehrhart (2004) servant leadership scale development, 7 dimensional measures that include forming relationship with subordinates, empowering subordinates, helping subordinates towards growth and success, behaving ethically, putting subordinates first, having conceptual skills, and value creation for others outside the organization.
Employees are the best source to assess their supervisor’s and manager’s leadership so respondents will be asked to rate their leaders on the 14 items scale of servant leadership (Kashyap & Rangnekar, 2014). Secondly, there will be six items measures for intrinsic motivation which was introduced by Kuvaas and Dysvik (2009). Thirdly, for dependent variable employee retention Seashore et al., (1982) modified version will be taken into consideration which comprises 3 items.
For proper analysis of the data collected from the survey process, SPSS abbreviated for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences has been introduced. As stated by Okagbue, Ogun Tunde, Obasi &Akhmetshin (2021), SPSS has been the most widely used statistical software that meets the purpose of statistical analysis in terms of social science as well as market analysis. The usage of SPSS 20 software has been extremely beneficial during the analysis process as this software tool is exceedingly powerful for appropriate manipulation as well as deciphering data from the survey process.
In case of missing values, IBM SPSS 22 software has the default feature of listwise deletion. In IBM SPSS we have two methods of deleting the missing values listwise and pairwise. List-wise deletion is only appropriate in the case when we have missing data distributed at random (MCAR) (Honaker and King, 2010).
This study was conducted by gathering only primary data through questionnaires. The questionnaire design was based on the objective of the study. There were four parts in our questionnaire as demographics, Servant leadership, Employee retention, and Intrinsic motivation respectively. There were no missing values in our dataset. We have no missing values in our dataset. As per the literature, missing values should be less than 5 percent Schaffer (1999).
First, we have done exploratory data analysis on demographics variables like gender, highest education and age group to get a better picture about our respondents.
Quantitative research approach is the appropriate one while examining the relationshi
p between variables (Robson,2002). Hence, to fulfill the research objectives, this study needs to apply quantitative research design and will use multiple regression analysis to test the hypothesis. A multiple regression analysis is suitable when a single-metric response variable is hypothesized to be related with multiple metric explanatory variables (Kline, 2005).
In this study, a single-metric response variable is employee retention and multiple-metric explanatory variables are servant leadership and intrinsic motivation. Similarly, for “mediation analysis”, Hayes process model will be used as this model is widely used for estimating direct and indirect effect in single and multiple mediator models (Hayes, 2013).
Hypothesis to be Validate:
H1: “Servant leadership is positively related to employee retention””.
H2: “Servant leadership is positively related to employees’ intrinsic motivation.
H3: “Intrinsic motivation has positive relation with employee retention”.
H4: “Intrinsic motivation has a mediating effect between servant leadership and employee retention.”
4.3 Descriptive, Empirical or Qualitative Analysis
Validity Analysis
The extent to which we correctly measure a construct known as validity. (Dillon, Madden, & Firtle, 1994). In our study we have used discriminant validity and convergent validity to assess the construct validity (Hair, Black, Babin, & Anderson, 2010). Assessing the tendency to which measurement of a factor is correlated; discriminant validity was assessed by measuring the degree to which conceptually similar sub-dimensions are distinct. Our all the constructs are unidimensional. Each construct item headed in the same direction. All construct items were measured at the same scale. Henceforth, for the second-degree concept (i.e., six sub-dimensions of intrinsic motivation), the summated scale of the six sub-dimensions showed that the six sub-dimensions related with, but unique to each other.
Reliability Analysis:
An important measure is accuracy of a research instrument, also known as reliability. How accurately is measured in regenerated with repetitions in measurement. (Dillon, Madden, & Firtle, 1994). The reliability was measured using Cronbach coefficient alpha. All the constructs have reliability greater than traditionally suggested of 0.70(Nunnally, 1978). Construct Employee Retention has Cronbach alpha value of 0.831, Servant leadership has Cronbach alpha value of 0.946 and Intrinsic motivation has CronBach alpha value of 0.886.

· Of the total respondents, 60.7% are females and 39.3% are males.
· Of the total respondents, 19.6% between 18 to 24 age group, 61.7 % between 25 to 34 age group, 9.3% are between 35 to 44 age group, 6.5 % are between 45 to 54 age group, and 2.8 % are between 55 to 64 age group.
· In female respondents, 21.5% are 18 to 24 age group, 64.6% are between 25 to 34 age group, 4.6% are between 35 to 44 age group, 6.2% are between 45 to 54 age group, and 3.1 % are between 55 to 64 age group.

4.4 Testing the theoretical framework
Descriptive Analysis:
Descriptive analysis is used to summarise or aggregate the raw information. In this we process raw information or data to be meaningful and reduced form. That helps us to proceed with further analysis. Some of the descriptive analysis elements are average, count, median, mode, standard deviation, standard error, interquartile range, range, sum and confidence intervals of a particular variable.Generally we measure two types of measure in descriptive analysis: first central tendency and dispersion second inferential statistics. With the help of central tendency measure one can easily portray a summarised form of reduced information regarding the data. We can get a picture of how our data is distributed. In inferential statistics we generalize our hypothesis about data with the help of statistically calculated expected values. Most of the calculations were made in inferential statistics in consideration of future outcomes. Every descriptive analysis technique has its own merit and demerit. Also different types of data required different types of techniques to analyse effectively and efficiently. There are some visual descriptive analysis techniques to envisage the variable distribution and get a better understanding about the information. Descriptive analysis and inferential statistics both are effective ways to process the information to get fair understanding about data and successfully compress the information into reduced form. For example if we want to check the normality of given continous data. We have to run some descriptive analysis and the outcome of kurtosis and skewness will tell us about the normality of our data. Also there are some tests to assess the normality of given data.
There are three types of descriptive analysis: first frequency or percent distribution, second central tendency measure (mean, median, mode) and third type of descriptive analysis is dispersion. In dispersion we have standard deviation, standard error, variance, mean deviation, and mean absolute deviation.
Frequency distribution is used to describe data over category or interval to their respective counts. In case of category how many data points fall into that particular category and in similar way all categories were listed down. For continuous variables we could have grouped data or ungrouped data. Grouped data and ungrouped has its own ways to create frequency distribution. For example we have students scholarship status and gender data, then gender will be the category and frequency will be the total number of counts of scholarship status within each category of gender. Frequency distribution will be followed by relative frequency and cumulative frequency. Both concepts have their own merits and demerits. Cumulative frequency is the basis of the pareto chart, which is widely used to categorise data based on importance. Relative frequency is the ratio of total frequency of variables in a category and total number of frequency of sample. Cumulative frequency is the cumulative sum of previous and current categories.
Mean:
Mean is one of the important measures of central tendency. It is a widely used technique to summaries numerical data or continuous information. It gives only one value outcome and is extremely simple to calculate and use. When we have many samples, arithmetic means are helpful to distinguish between those samples. It has one disadvantage, adversely affected by outliers. If there is one extreme outlier in our data then the mean is not a suitable method of central tendency.
Median is the second largest used central tendency measure. There is only one disadvantage, the median is not as famous as the arithmetic mean. Median is the average of the average term. For calculation of mean we have sorted the data in increasing or decreasing order. We have to count the total number of observations if its even then median is average of two middle terms, if total observation count is odd then it's middle value of sorted data. Median is not affected much by extreme outliers. For example If we have income data, then there will be some individuals having relatively higher income than others. If we summarise that daya them mean will be not a suitable choice to choose as descriptive measures. Median will be suitable and efficient for such conditions.
Mode
Mode is the most frequent observation in a sample or population. In an informational index we could have many modes or no modes in certain scenarios. We can't analyse different samples with the help of mode. Mode can only tell us the most frequent observation in a sample or population.
Standard error:
Standard error is the variation from expected values and observed values within a certain significance level in a sample. We have to set a prior level of significance. How much variability can we justify?. We could have more standard error by increasing significance level alpha. Standard error helps us to calculate margin of error. Margin of error is a simple standard error divided by square root of total number of observations. Standard error also gives us an important descriptive measure of the sample's confidence intervals. Within a certain significance level we can infer about our sample.
Quartiles:
Quartiles divide our data by three points into four equivalent pieces of information. Each piece of information has a significant amount of information shared about the data. First quartile has 25 percent of information about the data. Second quartile having 50 percent information about the data. In the third quartile we will be having 75 percent of information about the data. One of the most used applications of quartile distribution is inter quartile range. That is the difference between the third and the first quartile. It's extensively used in continuous variables. With the help of iqr we can easily identify any significant outliers present in our data.
Range:
Range can be calculated as the difference between maximum value of the sample and minimum value of the observation in the sample. It helps us to get a fair idea about how maximum variation could be present between extreme minimum and maximum observation. Range is applicable when we are monitoring data for variations. We could have some predefined variation criteria. If our observations deviate from that criterion.
Normality
Normality of continuous variables is the most important aspect before moving into further inferential and predictive statistics. We can evaluate the normality of a given variable by graphical methods or statistical methods. For graphical methods we generally draw a histogram with a selective number of bins and bin width. Then we try to fit a normal curve to that distribution. distribution. There are many more methods to check normality qq plot, histogram, kurtosis, and skewness. We could have a statistical test to check the normality of continuous variables. “Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and the Shapiro–Wilk test are the most widely used tests to assess the normality of a given continuous variable.
Correlation coefficient
The sole purpose of correlation coefficients is to evaluate the strength of the relationship between two continuous variables. There are three methods to evaluate correlation coefficients Pearson, Spearman, and kendall. Generally, we use Pearson correlation in linear regression. Correlation coefficients vary from -1 to 1. Negative correlation coefficient (coefficient value between -1 to 0) indicates inverse relationship between variables. Positive correlation (coefficient value between 0 to 1) coefficient indicates direct relationship between variables. Correlation is the foundation basis of regression analysis. With the help of correlation analysis one can easily assess the dependency or relationship between two continuous variable samples.

Assumption 2. Independence of residuals. There will be no autocorrelation or specific pattern in distribution of residual. We can check this assumption by creating a scatter plot around the axis. if there is some pattern in observation across the x axis, then there is autocorrelation present.
Assumption 3. Homoscedasticity means residuals must have constant variance at each value of explanatory variable. The residual variance should be homogeneous. That variance should be uniformly distributed over the residuals.
Assumption 4. response variables should be normally distributed. We can check normality of response variable by simply drawing Histogram or by tests for eg. shapiro wilk test. if our data fails to meet normality assumption. Then we can transform our variable by logarithmic transformation of exponential transformation or just we could standardize our data.

In simple linear regression we have one predictor and one response variable. First variable can be represented as a response variable (quantitative response variable). Second Variable can be represented as an explanatory variable or explanatory variable. Explanatory variables are also termed as predictors.
Scatter plot can be referred to the distribution of two variables by each observation. We can easily visualize the relationship between two variables by drawing a scatter plot. Each dot in the scatter plot represents an observation. Also we can easily fit a trendline in a scatter plot, which depicts the empirical relationship between response variables and explanatory variables.
