Introduction
Capacity and scheduling have been discussed elaborately in this topic. The initial step in capacity and scheduling are marked by predicting the demand capacity of the services. Capacity is defined as the rate through which the transformation systems can be able to create outputs within a significantly less amount of time. The ability of the firm determines the actual outcome that the company can produce within a limited amount of time. Every organisation determines the capacity planning based on the cost of the production as it is costly. Capacity and scheduling are closely interlinked because of the time-bound factor.
Supply chain strategies plan an essential role in determining the competitiveness of an organisation. Different organisations use different methods to regulate supply chain management so that they can earn a competitive edge over their rivals. The topic of supply chain management and its competitiveness has been discussed about Amazon. The issue presents a critical role of operations in supply chain management. The supply chain management has been discussed in detail in the topic. The topic elaborates how each procedure and steps in the supply chain are essential enough for the organisations to earn competitiveness over the rivals. Big companies often mild or regulate the supply chain so that they can extract advantage out of the market positions. The supply chain can be controlled depending upon the market condition.
Strategic Supply Chain Management benefits the organisation in various aspects. Any organisation can have full control over the market because of the supply chain. The strategies adopted towards the supply chain management helps the organisation in meeting the competitive edge in the market. If any organization can control the supply chain and gain the resources in the first instance, the company can have an upper hand in the market. The various strategies of a well-maintained supply chain would be discussed with reference to Apple. It would be shown how Apple has been implementing strategies in the supply chain to build a strong position in the market.
Capacity and Scheduling
Findings
One of the essential results states the importance of ability in an organisation. Concerning Airtel, the topic shows the significant role of capacity within the organisation. Capacity refers to the strength of the transformation system that helps the organisation in meeting the desired objectives. Every organisation requires meeting specific deadlines and goals to render the services to the customers. The demand in the market determines these goals. Therefore, the capacity of the organisation ensures the fulfilment of the market demands. The capacity of an organisation is judged by the ability to produce the required output that would help in meeting the desired market demands (Findlay et al., 2017). The findings suggest every organisation needs to have the upper hand in the capacity to get a competitive edge in the market. Capacity planning is a long-term practice.
Capacity planning requires a tremendous amount of time, but once the planning is done, it cannot be reversed for an extended period. Various strategies are involved in capacity planning and decisions. The initial approach is the facility size planning. The organisation needs to ensure that the production level is high so that the organisation can get a high facility. The lower level of production will lead to lower facility options. However, the companies can adopt higher facilities by adopting lower costs of production through the strategy of economies of scale. If the budget is formulated effectively and the renewable resources can be used, the organisations can afford immense facilities incapacity planning. Another important finding is that capacity and scheduling are highly interlinked. Scheduling refers to the calculation of the time-bound factors and producing the services with a limited period. Scheduling concerns the timing of the productive resources required for cavities. The organisations must schedule, input, and set the schedules as per the requirement of the job. Heavy infinite loading of work requires endless scheduling. Scheduling depends on the type of job and severity of the job. The main objective behind scheduling is to meet the market demand for goods and services. Schedule management also helps in reducing the costs of production by an effective strategy of alternative facilities.
However, specific organisations implement short-term capacity planning, as well. Although capacity planning is long-term effect, specific changes and modifications can be done based on the need of the market demand. The short term capacity planning can bring a change in scheduling, labour shifts and balancing of the resources. The short term capacity planning can be implemented with the help of the Theory of Constraints (Hazen et al., 2018). The theory of constraints helps in determining the limitations on the capacity and takes valuable and time-bound strategies to remove those constraints. The theory states to implement resources to eradicate the restrictions arising from short-term capacity planning.
Ongoing Trends and Latest Developments
One of the most critical ongoing trends in capacity management is the inclusion of the IT structure. The organisations are using IT facilities so that the capacity of the organisations can be improved. IT infrastructure would be able to improve the speed and the tenure of the ability. IT costs, and service level agreements are one of the most critical ongoing trends in capacity management and scheduling. The use of Artificial Technology has become quite common in the organisation to increase its capacity. The goods and services are produced with double speed and fewer efforts with the help of the inclusion of artificial technology. Moreover, the inclusion of cloud-based environments helps in effective scheduling. The cloud space can be used for storage of the time schedules and operations can be carried out based on such programs.
Strategic Roles of Capacity and Scheduling
Capacity and scheduling plays a pivotal role in the strategy building of the organisation. Organisation can be able to formulate the organisational strategy based on ability and schedule. The capacity and scheduling would determine the strength of...
