Operations Management Assessment task 3, 50% Marks, Due date: TBA Operations Management Assessment Task 2RMIT Classification: Trusted OMGT 1039 Assessment task 2 Assignment type: Business report, Group Assignment, Four to Five students Due Date: 16th of May 2022 at 23:59pm Melbourne time Word count: 4000 words +/- 5%. excluding Executive summary, Table of content, Reference list, Appendix and Coversheet. Learning Outcomes: CLO1, CLO3, CLO4, CLO5 Weighting: 30% Feedback mode: Written feedback provided together with the assessed work. Task: Develop a new product/service and develop a comprehensive plan for the operation process. You are required to: · Develop a new product/service within the following sectors: furniture, food & beverage, electronic device, fashion, entertainment, tourism and hospitality. You should first critically review the processes needed to develop a new product by identifying the customer needs, defining the appropriate level of product/service quality, and considering the other perspectives, i.e., liability issues, ethical considerations, sustainability issues, costs and profits. Apply Kano model to classify the quality of your product/service. Then develop the house of quality for your product/service with clear explanation. · Define the bill of material and develop the MRP for your product/service. You should research and collect necessary data if needed, from the real suppliers for your calculations. This is your product/service, so feel free to make assumptions of data like the number of products should be planned each month or lot size. · Define the inventory ordering policies for all components in the bill of material. Search for the real suppliers of your component and estimate necessary data like lead time for your calculation. Cover the issues of order size, reordering point, safety stock. Try to be realistic when assuming the data for your calculation. · Investigate the biggest challenge and discuss directions that relate to operations management of your product/service to effectively and efficiently manage it. Example: Your group plan to open a bottling plant and sell water bottles to RMIT students. After the product design stage, you decide to sell the water bottles which are cheaper than other brands in the market like Mount Franklin or Pump with funny design that attracts young people. The bill of material includes water, labels and plastic bottle and you forecast that the demand is 10,000 bottles per month. You then search for cheap suppliers of those components, obtain the data and start the plan for MRP and inventory management. How should your product design and/or production plan and/or inventory management policies be adapted to deal with this challenge? Marking Criteria: · Product/Service design (20%): comprehensive understanding of product/service design theories and ability to apply it in manufacturing/service sectors. Show Kano model and house of quality. · Material requirements planning (20%): Describe the inputs, outputs, and nature of MRP processing, explain how requirements in a master production schedule are translated into material requirements and perform quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of MRP in real contexts. · Inventory management (20%): The comprehensiveness of the data collection required for inventory management and the quality of quantitative and/or qualitative analysis based on the collected data. · Recommendation/Discussion (20%): Investigate the challenge and discuss directions that relate to operations management of your product/service to effectively and efficiently manage it.  · The overall presentation of the assignment (20%): Clarity of presentation and the sequence of the topics, Executive Summary, Introduction, Table of content, List of Figures/ Tables, Conclusions, Citation (Harvard style), Page numbering, Cover sheet, Appendix (if any), Compliance with the word limit and Quality of references.  Submission Instructions: One submission per group is enough, following the steps below: 1. (max 50 words for a member) Team member’s signature 1. Prepare the written report in MS Word. 2. Upload the report to Turnitin in one file which contains a. cover page b. report, and c. teamwork commitment form) Other important Information · Choose a name for your group. This name will be used for all references and communication. · Stick with word limit. Words beyond limit will not be considered. · One submission per group is enough. All Submissions must be made through Canvas. · The assessed assignments will be returned to students within two weeks of the due date. · Group assignments which are done individually will not be accepted. Please make sure you join a group by the end of week 4. · Every member of the group should equally contribute towards the completion of the assignment. If you have any concern about the level of contribution by members in your group, then it is imperative to speak to your tutor well in advance. Do not leave it to the week before the due date as it would be difficult for the tutor to help you out.    Support Resources Additional library and learning resources are available to help with the assessment in this course Link to Assignment Support. Late work: All assignments will be marked as if submitted on time. Late submissions of assignments without special consideration or extension will be automatically penalised at a rate of 10% of the total marks available per day (or part of a day) late. Project: Production of Self-cleaning water bottles – In the current proposed project we plan to open a bottling plant and try to manufacture and sell the self-cleaning water bottles. Our aim is to select a suitable easy to clean design with low cost input in its production so that we can sell our water bottles at a cheaper rate as compared to the water bottles of other brands in the market like Mount Franklin or Pump which have funky design to attract young people and once achieved success scale up our work to local markets as well. In this project we opens a self -clean bottle manufacturing plant that forms the disposable bottles and input all the necessary things like UV filters, silicon O rings and caps in them for proper sterilization and sealing. We plan our funds according to the bill of included materials like water, labels and plastic bottle manufacturing materials etc. considering the demand is 10,000 bottles per month.
The complete data regarding why we are doing this project along with its existing market players, our project design strategy, raw materials needed, price details and marketing strategy are discussed as below:
Water is utmost essential for our survival and so is the availability of drinking water. But just the availability of water is not sufficient in fact it should be clean, pure and free from all types of pathogenic micro-organisms to avoid any infections or diseases. For the purification of water different strategies like sedimentation of impurities, boiling, activated charcoal treatment and reverse osmosis are available. But these processes are not handy and you have to do a proper set up for purifying water with these methods. But in the current scenario where people are always in rush and moves from one place to another for their work or for recreational purpose like hiking, trekking etc. At that time they need to be hydrated for giving their best and hence they use to carry their own water bottles with them. Simple water bottles only store their water but in the present situation where new and hazardous microbes are emerging day by day the presence of self-cleaning water bottle is miraculous. As, it provides them the pure and hygienic water and keeps them healthy and strong. Self-cleaning bottles have auto clean function due to their in-built ultra-violet technology which helps in deactivation of all the pathogenic microbes just by pressing their activator button. These bottles employ UV-C light to kill all forms of microorganisms by destroying their DNA and protect them from all the water borne infections.
Currently existing self-cleaning water bottles –The need of portable water purification self-cleaning bottles market in Asian countries is growing at a significant rate among all kinds of people, all ages, and income groups. These bottles are safe and effective method for disinfecting water as reported by Environmental Protection Agencies as well. Therefore, currently many self-cleaning water bottles are there in the global market that can neutralizes around 99% of bacteria with the help of ultra-violet technology and can clean pollutants like cadmium, mercury, chlorine etc. Their UV system automatically activates after every 2 hours and keeps the water and the bottle stink-free. Their filters are durable and can filter approximately 50 gallons of water.
