Cyber-attacks happen on a daily basis. Former Cisco CEO John Chambers once said, “There are two types of companies: those that have been hacked, and those who don’t yet know they have been hacked.” Cyber-attacks mainly happen to earn money unethically in the form of ransom. Dealing with blackmail is not easy. You never know what is going on inside another person’s head. But there definitely are some things that I would avoid a hundred percent in such situations.
The scenario explained here says that the blackmailer makes a call demanding a payment of $10,000 or the company’s customer database will be encrypted and made inaccessible by a logic bomb that has been planted in the firm’s billing system.
Planting a logic bomb is not the only kind of cyber-attack. There are more types and an IT manager should be prepared to face any one of the following:
