Project 1: Job Performance Assessment
BUS 483: Organizational Behavior & Development
February 4, 2021
Introduction
Employees play a principal role in the successful working of an organization. Different employees perform different jobs and their job duties
and responsibilities differ. It is important to have a proper job description and criteria for job performance and task performance so that both the administration and employees are clear about what a job demands. What follows is a job description and discussion on the role of an Administrative Assistant.
Job Description: Administrative Assistant
The current position I hold is that of an Administrative assistant. The position of an Administrative assistant is an important administrative post that supports the manager or head of department in a number of ways. The position is similar to that of a secretary but covers a range of administrative duties as well. The duties and responsibilities of an administrative assistant range from providing administrative support for efficient operations to supporting managers and employees in a range of organizational and communication tasks. Administrative assistants are also responsible for keeping confidential and time sensitive material. They are required to be familiar with various field concepts, practices and procedures. The administrative assistant needs to have excellent communication ability whether it is via phone or email. He needs to ensure that all his duties are completed in an accurate manner. He is expected to have sound experience and judgement and may even be required to lead others. He must thus have both planning skills along with creativity and leadership qualities. He is required to report to a manager or head of a department (Otazo, 2010).
Job Performance and Task Performance
Job performance of employees refers to the way employees perform their job duties. A range of factors affect job performance including training, natural ability, workplace environment, job nature, employee morale, work hours and stress levels (Motowidlo, & Kell, 2012).
On the other hand, task performance refers to particular elements of job performance which convert raw materials into goods and services, for example selling products, working on an assembly line, teaching. They may also refer to activities that service the core functions of organizations for example, computer technician, human resources, staffing etc. (Motowidlo, & Kell, 2012)
Occupational Information Network or O*NET
The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) is a database of definitions of occupations created free-of-charge, for students, businesses, job seekers and workforce in order to support workforce development and understand the work responsibilities of different jobs in the United States. The major components of O*NET are...
