1 Project 2: Organizational Culture Paper BUS 483: Organizational Behavior & Development Assignment Overview: Due March 6, 2021 You will complete an in-depth assessment of organizational culture on an organization of your choosing (note: it cannot be a company studied in this course) and includes an informational interview. The final product will be a 5 page paper (minimum excluding cover page, reference page, or appendix page) that includes 5 scholarly references and an interview. You are encouraged to use the library online databases for sources in addition to peer reviewed journal articles. This is an individual assignment. Note: This assignment requires reading Chapter 16 out of sequence - see course syllabus and weekly module. Questions to address in the paper include the following: • Define corporate culture, its major components, and discuss the organization you chose in this framework (provide specific examples). • Does the organization have a strong or weak culture? Why do you feel this way? • What steps does the organization take to maintain its culture? And/or what steps are they taking to change the culture? • What steps does the organization take to make sure newcomers fit with the culture? • Do you find the culture positively impacts job performance and organizational commitment? Why or why not? IMPORTANT: Support each of your answers with research. Expectations • The organization is of your choosing. However, you cannot choose one we have discussed in class. In addition, since an interview is required – you may want to consider how easy it would be for you to contact someone there. Interview • An interview of an employee of the organization is required, and can be completed either face-to-face or by telephone. You are NOT to conduct the interview by email correspondence. • At least five questions should be prepared in advance and attached as Appendix A to end your paper. The appendix should also provide the name and contact information of the person you interviewed. 2 • Questions should be focused on helping you answer the key questions outlined above and should be based on the concepts and terms covered in the course. • Keep the correspondence and interview professional. • Send a thank you. References • Acceptable references are peer-reviewed journal articles, business databases, academic resources, government websites (Department of Labor, EEOC, etc.), and the course text. • Citations should follow APA format for in-text citations and separate reference page (see APA template resource on course home page). • Five total references (can include the course text and the interview source as references) are required. Paper • Paper is at least five (5) full-pages in length, but can be a bit longer; this guideline does not include the cover page, reference page, or appendixes. • Paper is submitted to assignment drop box by the end of the day on the due date. Grading • Grading will be based on the following: • Content & depth of topic discussed (e.g. how well did you answer the key questions) • Was an interview conducted? And, is it clearly referenced within the paper? • Application of terms and concepts covered in the course • References are appropriately (in-text citations and reference page) formatted and applied for support of the discussion. • Overall composition and construction of paper (grammar, spelling, error-free). • Requirements of the assignment as outlined in overview and expectations have been met. Expectations of all Papers Times New Roman 12 point font and standard 1-inch margins is the maximum width (this is Word’s default settings). There is a high standard for grammar, spelling, and content. Your quality of writing should reflect that of a 400 level student in the Department of Business and Economics (DBE). Use of the Writing Center is strongly encouraged.
