Your final exam for this course is a departmental exam that counts a hefty 15% of your final grade.

While all English 1101 courses cover the same basic concepts, each course covers them differently. The final exam tests you over
everything
covered in English 1101, whether or not you submit assessments and assignments on a particular concept. Some of the things you will be tested over are modes for developing an essay (narration, etc.),whether or not this particular course covers a particular rhetorical mode;prewriting; basic structure of an essay;research;MLA formatting;andgrammar and sentence structure.

You will be tested over every reading assignment I post, whether or not I cover a particular reading assignment in other instructional material and assessments. For example, in this course, you will not write a process-analysis or compare/contrast essay, but on the final exam, you must be prepared to answer questions about these two rhetorical modes; you also will not be allowed to use web sites or Wikis in your works-cited pages; however, on the final exam, you must be prepared to answer questions about using web sites and Wikis in a research paper.

It is therefore
critical
that you not only complete all reading assignments but also take good notes so that you can review those notes before the final exam.

  • The final exam will require you to use the RespondusLockDownBrowser, instructions for which are posted in theStudent Resources tabof Blackboard. You should download this browser as soon as possible.

  • In this "Final Exam" folder, I provide two sample tests for you to try out the browser and make sure you know how to use it before the final exam. Neither test will be counted toward your final grade. The purpose of the tests is solely to allow you to learn how to use this browser before you take the final exam.

  • You know you have successfully taken and submitted the sample test when you see a green check marknext to it in "My Grades." Remember--these tests do not count in your course average.
