(Note that you do NOT need to reference me or the class lectures; however, you should reference your selected podcasts.) Your written response must be typed anddouble-spaced. You should use standard margins andno smaller than 12-point font. You must adhere to page limits; I will not read any material beyond the specified page limit. (Note: You should not adjust margins or font size in an effort to overcome the page limits.)
You will be graded on your ability:
- to demonstrate your understanding of (a) the relevant materials presented in class and (b) discussed in your selected podcasts;
- to analyze these materials to identify and to evaluate alternatives critically; and
- to offer a clear opinion supported by a sound rationale.
Assignment:
In class, we have talked about the future of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and healthcare more generally. In the lectures, I noted that oral arguments inCalifornia vs. Texaswere scheduled before the U.S. Supreme Court in November, 2020. Those arguments have now been heard; however, the Court has not yet issued its ruling. In fact, we will most likely learn how the case is decided - and whether the ACA survives - before this semester is over. In the meantime, in order to complete this assignment, you are required to supplement the lecture materials by listening to at least two (2) podcasts on this topic (i.e., the future of the ACA). List your sources on a separate References page, using APA format. For each reference, please include the names of the individuals participating in the commentary/interview/discussion, along with their roles/titles in a separate footnote. (You do not need to worry about formatting for the footnote.)
Inno more than two (2) pages, state what you believe to be the most likely future of the ACA. Explain clearly WHY you believe this will be the case. Of course, there is no “correct” answer for this question; however, as a healthcare professional, you will frequently be asked for your opinion on important issues such as this one, and you need to be able to offer an informed and well-reasoned response. That is what I will be looking for you to do here, applying the knowledge you have gained from Modules 1-5.
