The effects of Project Management Information Systems on decision making
Introduction
As we all know that now the business environment is very complex. It is important that the marriages are able to make the fast decisions, have clear focus and also allocate the different resources efficiently. In any organization there can be multiple projects on which the managers are working simultaneously, and they face different types of the challenges.
The project managers have to handle different types of the projects which have different timelines, complexity and the scope. These can be related with the resource conflict and the throughput times also. If there is an adequate balance between the scars resources then it can be an additional pressure over the organization, and this can lead to the poor quality of the information and it will also take much longer time for the project.
There can be interactions and the interdependencies between the projects and the over note of the project and information can be the specific challenges for the project managers. The managers may also become over word by the amount of information which is provided to them to make the decision. They can also lose the site for the relevant information or being unaware about the inaccuracies. If we talk in general, then if the manager is getting poor information quality, then it can lead to poor decision making.
It is advisable for the project managers to use the project management information system as the advantageous tool for their project. This is used because of the alleged contribution for that timeline decision making and the success of the project. If the organization has implementation for the project management information system and it is having multi project environment, then it can be useful in accomplishing the realistic project assignment.
This will be the effective strategy when the manager is managing multiple projects. There have been different types of the studies performed over the usage of project management information system which have clear focus over the single project which have high complexity and it is considered as the advantageous approach for such environments.
The project managers who have to deal with only the single project which have less complexity then, they may not use the project management information system because the time which they will invest in keeping the system up to date can exceed all the benefits which can be gained from the utilisation of the system. However, there is a little research performed to find out whether the project managers can handle multiple but less complex projects with the help of project management information system or not.
The objective of performing this study is to get better understanding about the different elements of the project management information system which can contribute to the adequate decision making for the multi project environment and it can also provide insights about the relationship present between the information quality of project management information system and the satisfaction level of the project manager with this system.
This study has the empirical nature, and it has the aim for identifying and quantifying the impacts of this system over the decision making with the help of the information in a multi project environment (Raymond, Louis, and François Bergeron). This information system can be used as a function of project management information system satisfaction and the quality of the information provided by the system.
