Ammar Zafar S1, 2020 Southern Cross University CSC00240 Data Communications and Networks Assessment 3 Please refer to the case study document for this assessment. I. SUBMISSION DATE The submission date is 22nd May, 2020 at 11:00 pm. Late submission will incur a 5% marks penalty per day. Submissions at 11:01 pm on 22nd May, 2020 will be considered late. Please make sure that you submit your assessment well ahead of the deadline as issues such as internet connectivity may cause last minute hiccups. No extensions will be provided unless applied through special consideration with proof of genuine reason for delay attached. II. PROBLEM In Assessment 2, you designed the LANs and IP addressing schemes for the network. In this assessment, you will accomplish the other tasks which will make this complete network work. In this assessment, your primary tasks are: 1) Designing/Selecting a WAN connection to provide fast, reliable but inexpensive Internet access. 2) Setting up routing such that all LANs can communicate with each other and have Internet access. 3) Select and design the model for the application(s) required to fulfill the requirements explicitly stated in the case study. 4) Rectify any issues that your new design causes with your design in Assessment 2. The complete network should work in cohesion. 5) Draw the logical topology of the complete network with IP addresses and interfaces labeled. Of course, all these designs should follow the requirements and principles laid out in the case study. Let us look at each task in a little more detail: A. WAN Internet Connection Everyone at the office requires Internet access. The choice of the Internet connection must keep in mind the requirements of each of the LANs and any other uses of the Internet. You can assume that Network Address Translation (NAT) comes pre-configured in the router that comes with the Internet connection you select. You can also assume that Public IPv4 addresses come with the Internet connection. B. Routing You need to establish routing to make sure there is connectivity between the LANs, and to make sure that all the hosts on the LAN can access the Internet. If your design includes dynamic routing, then give the routing protocol going to be utilized. C. Application Design You need to select the applications to fulfill the requirements for email and video conferencing. You will also need to select the model(s) of how the applications are utilized and how they fit in the overall network design. 1 Ammar Zafar S1, 2020 D. Update of Assessment 2 Designs There may have been some mistakes in your Assessment 2 design and/or your Assessment 3 may not be compatible with your Assessment 2 design. Hence, you need to update your Assessment 2 design and make sure that the complete netwoek makes sense and fulfills all its requirements. Any design changes in Assessment 2 need to highlighted in red font, i.e written in red font so that they stand out and can be easily identified. Also, you need to give the reasons why your Assessment 2 design changed which also need to be highlighted in red font. In case there are no changes from the design in Assessment 2, state it explicitly in red font. E. Logical Topology Diagram You need to provide a logical topology diagram of the complete network including the WAN connection tot he ISP. All the subnetworks should be clearly identified with their IP addresses, and all devices shown with connected interfaces labeled with both their type and number (e.g S0/0/0), and IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6). III. SUBMISSION GUIDELINE You will submit your complete network design in the form of a report which thoroughly details the reasons for decisions made, as well as the actual decisions made. The report should follow a logical structure and be easy to follow. Jargon-laden and difficult to follow reports will not be looked upon favourably. The total length of the report is 2000 words. In addition you should include a Title Page, Contents Page and a page listing all references. These additional pages are not to be included in this word count. Be sure to number all pages in your report. DO NOT INCLUDE APPENDICIES. The Title Page should have the following information: • Unit code • Unit name • Case Study Title (You can choose any appropriate title you desire.) • Word count • Student name • Student ID An Executive Summary is also required, and should be no more than 200 words. This is in addition to the 2000 word report. All information sources must be appropriately acknowledged and a full bibliography is required. References should follow the IEEE format. There are two links provided for Assessment 3 submission: 1) Turnitin link, 2) Assignment Submission link. You have to submit the same report to both links. If they are not the same or you don’t submit in both links, you automatically receive a Fail. The Turnitin submission will be used to check for academic misconduct while the Assignment Submission link will be used for marking purposes. The report should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document through the Turnitin link. The word document should be named named ‘[Your last name] [Your student ID].docx’(quotations marks not included). For example, if I submitted the file it would be named Zafar 123456.docx. IV. ADVICE You should have more confidence in your problem solving and report writing advice for As- sessment 3 as you have done similar assessment before. Nevertheless, there are new challenges 2 https://ieee-dataport.org/sites/default/files/analysis/27/IEEE%20Citation%20Guidelines.pdf Ammar Zafar S1, 2020 top overcome. Also, learning from one mistakes also takes time. So, please get started on this assessment as soon as possible. The general approach remains the same: STart with something you and is relatively easy and slowly build up to final solution. Do not wait till the last two weeks to start the assessment. As usual you are encouraged to discuss the assessment with your fellow students and teachers. But you must develop your own solution and write your own report. V. MARKING A marking rubric is provided with the assessment. We will mark the assessment holistically. What this means is that overall your solution should make sense and effectively solves the problem. Individual parts of the solution might be good on their own but overall may not work together, hence, making the solution ineffective. We want you to be able to effectively solve the problem. You should not look at each criteria in isolation. Almost all criteria depend on each other. To take an example, you may have the best report presentation but if everything in it is wrong, it does not matter and you will not gain any marks. This reflects the real-world where solutions should work. The layout of the rubric cannot capture this effect but you need to be aware that it is there. Your grade for the assessment will reflect how your overall solution tackles the given problems for this assessment. 3 Submission Date Problem WAN Internet Connection Routing Application Design Update of Assessment 2 Designs Logical Topology Diagram Submission Guideline Advice Marking Ammar Zafar S1, 2020 Southern Cross University CSC00240 Data Communications and Networks Assessment 3 Please refer to the case study document for this assessment. Executive summary
The increased workload on the news agencies requires them to open their new offices in different cities. Opening a new office in city like Sidney requires them to develop a proper network which can be easily used by the employees of that news agency for completing their tasks. The LAN connections can only assure the data and resource sharing in the same building but it does not allow them to make global connections and use diffe
rent internet based services. Thus, WAN implementation becomes essential for news agencies to make their global presence and cover global news. The same IP assigned in previous task can effectively use for implementing the WAN connections from the already developed LAN connection. The implementation of WAN will require more resources and will also come with certain vulnerabilities. Thus, implementation of new resources and developing a proper solution for required WAN network with overcoming all identified vulnerabilities is mainly covered in this presented task. Maintaining security devices is not essential with LAN implementation as any unauthorized user is not allowed to make use of any physical resource but when WAN implementation is required, then, proper firewall and other security implications becomes essential for any new network. Thus, firewall implementation, server implementation, WAP implementation and removal of identified vulnerabilities are mainly done in this assignment 3 tasks.

a) Introduction
The high speed and secured WAN connections to all departments is most common requirement of all the organizations like this news agency. The Sydney based news agency is requiring WAN connections for their employees. The same LAN design developed in previous task is updated for making the WAN connections. The previously developed network design is maintaining a router which is connected to multi layer switches and then to end user systems but in this new design, the ISP from cloud and firewall are mainly updated. The internet based communication between all set departments with maintaining the required application execution for end user are mainly proposed in this new design. The verification of communication between set departments is also done. The resource sharing among departments and their communication assurance is mainly done here. The WAN connections of this task is making use of previously developed LAN design and updating new required resources. This newly proposed design will help this news agency to maintain its WAN connections to all the departments and this can also be connected to the head office of this news agency. The IP addressing provided in the previous task is exactly used the new network design. The secured communication based on previously defined IP structure is mainly carried out for this new report. The network security is also focused in this task.
b) WAN implementation for news agency
The main requirement provided by this news agency for the required update is WAN implementation. Without assuring the WAN connections, the communication between the departments and application uses will not be possible. The data sharing with head office of this news agency will also be not possible. Thus, the ISP is included for implementation of required WAN connections. The complete new network after performing the required updates will allow internet connections to all staff members. The focus on security maintains firewall implementation and same is also included to update the previously developed design. Both ISP connection and firewall are used on entrance point of new network. So, the updated design for WAN network implementation for news agency is:
Most of the modern network connectivity to their users and same wireless connectivity is not assured and provided in previous design. As, any such wireless network requirement is not provided in the case, so, only one WAP point is included for the management review. The end users can use the ISP services for performing the required internet based application execution. The use of set firewall will fulfill the security implications for this news agency. The multi port switches of previous design are also replaced with normal switches for reducing the final implementation budget for the new network.
c) Configuration of routers and verification of connections to departments
Without router implementation, the routes for data packets transferred among departments cannot be set. The required route from one department to other department and connection with ISP can be maintained with routing definition. A proper strategy is required to follow for the final implementation of routing services to the news agency network. Each department maintains their own routers and these department based routers are connected to the main router which is connected to ISP. The configuration of this ISP connected main router is:
The separate routers deployed for providing services to news agency departments are making connections to above configured router. So, the configured router to maintain administrative subnet services is presented underneath:
The configured router to maintain editorial subnet services in the developed WAN network design is presented underneath:
The configured router to maintain video subnet services in the developed WAN network design is presented underneath:
The configured router to maintain print subnet services in the developed WAN network design is presented underneath:
The configured router to maintain wireless services for editorial subnet services in the developed WAN network design is presented underneath:
After configuration of required routing services, the successful connections and message transfer among subnets can be possible but its verification is essential. This required verification is performed through ping execution from terminal:...
