Due Date

Week 7 (Friday 11:55pm 31st August), submit report on Moodle

Submission Guidelines

  •  All work must be submitted on Moodle by the due date along with a completed Assignment Cover Page.

  •  The assignment must be in MS Word format, 1.5 spacing, 11-pt Calibri (Body) font and 2 cm margins on all four sides of your page with appropriate section headings.

  •  Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using IEEE referencing style.

Extension

 If an extension of time to submit work is required, a Special Consideration Application must be submitted directly on AMS. You must submit this application three working days prior to the due date of the assignment. Assignment 1 Description
Business case study: Network design proposal for a hospital

Description

The project aims to design a network for a hospital. The hospital has three buildings and each building has five floors. The buildings are located within 500 meters away from one another and have the same homogeneous structure where each floor has 10 small rooms for doctors and 5 patients’ wards where network points need to be installed to connect PCs. Each small room should have 2 network points and each ward should have 3 network points. There is a server room consisting of 3 servers located in one of these buildings which will be the centre of communication for this network. The server room should have 20 network points to connect servers and PCs. A high speed internet connection is available at the server room which is to be shared by the users of the network.

(You will need to demonstrate your assignment during laboratory class).

Write a report with the following contents

  •  Project Scope

  •  Project hardware requirements

    • - Name of the network device with manufacturer’s name, series, model and ports

    • - Network topology

    • - Type of the cables

    • - Name of the server, PC with specification such as operating system, RAM, hard disk etc.

  •  Network Design in Netsim (You should not use packet tracer)

  •  Network device configurations

    a. Switch configuration:

    • - set hostname as your family name

    • - set system clock to 29th August 2018 5:00pm

    • - display the name of the file and version of IOS

    • - display the name of the interfaces
      b. Router configuration
      - set hostname as your family name
      - set system clock to 20th September 2018 4:45pm - display the name of the file and version of IOS
      - display the name of the interfaces
