    1. Review Week 3 content and activities. Post your responsestoat least 3of the 4 Cultural Awareness Forum questions:

    • Question 1: What does ‘culture’ mean to you?Include a cultural artefact, photograph, weblink or illustration.

    • Question 2: Discuss the ways in which engineering intersects with Aboriginal Australians in contemporary society. For this question, you may refer to a journal article, website, engineering codes of ethics or other resources such as the Blue Wren Video Series.

    • Question 3: How could cultural awareness and inclusive behaviour affect a solution you develop for/with the EWB community, the focus of your major project? How might it differ if the project was based in an Aboriginal community in any part of the word?

    • Question 4: Reflecting on the posts from other students in the Cultural Awareness Forum, the Blue Wren Resources and other course content, what will you take into your professional life you might not have thought about before with regard to culture, diversity, Aboriginal Australians and professional practice?

Forum posts will be moderated and monitored by ourAboriginal Content in Undergraduate Programs (ACUP)team, all of whom have extensive experience with Indigenous people.

    2. Use course readings, your own research, the Blue Wren resources and Cultural Awareness Forum Discussion posts to develop andwrite an Individual Report of up to 1500 wordsfocused on how engineers can work collaboratively and effectively with Aboriginal Communities to develop appropriate design solutions.

Your report must consider the following:

    • How will following a human-centred design approach, with opportunities for community consultation, help an engineer to develop appropriate engineering solutions?

    • What principles for community consultation would you follow when working with Aboriginal Australian communities? How would the same principles be applied when working with the EWB Challenge community?

    • How do inclusive behaviour and cultural awareness influence the way you communicate with your client and stakeholders, and help you work effectively within an engineering team?

Please refer to theAssessment 1.1 Individual Report Template(PDF format,MS format)and submit your report as an MS Word or .pdf document. Access exemplars of the Individual Report by the 2020 cohort of on-campus students from the resource folder below.DO NOT COPYfrom the exemplars.

    Advice and Resources

A link to the Cultural Awareness forum is available in Week 3 of the course site.

A report template is available for this assessment.

Exemplars of the Individual Report by the 2020 cohort of on-campus students have been provided in resource folder below (for your viewing).DO NOT COPYfrom the exemplars.

We recommend that you submit your draft report toStudiosityfor feedback before your final submission. You should allow some time to obtain a response from the Studiosity team as this is not an immediate service.

    Academic Integrity

This is an individual report and you are expected to follow appropriate academic integrity processes to acknowledge any sources of information you have used to prepare your report.

Turnitin is a tool that identifies levels of similarity between your writing and other student assignments and published work.

All written assignments submitted online at UniSA aresubmitted toTurnitin. In some courses, this is only done once the assignment is officially submitted. However, in many courses, you can submit your work ahead of the deadline to generate your own "Originality report".This enables you tocheckhow similar your work is to other sources.

You can then withdraw the assignmentto make any necessary changes and resubmit it in revised form. Ask your course coordinator if you're unsure whether this applies to you.

    Feedback

Feedback will be provided through theAssessment 1.1Marksheet. You should carefully consider the feedback you receive on this assessment and use it as part of your ePortfolio reflections.

Reflecting and acting on feedback is a key activity that demonstrates your ongoing development as a reflective practitioner.

  • Below are three Individual Report examples by 2020 cohorts of on-campus SEP students that you can view to understand what is required of you for the assessment. While you are allowed to view these resources,DO NOT COPYfrom them as that will constitute a breach of Academic Integrity.

Please note:the students has granted their permission for the University to use their assessment as an example for this course.

Introduction
The development of modern technology largely depends on the f
act that how it should be included towards the betterment of the common society. The role of engineers in this context is crucial because they provide positive and negative both kind of solutions. For example, developing infrastructure of the society to manage the growing needs of population is on their shoulders but at the same time, developing something, such as neither bombs, which is neither design appropriate, nor it does any good to the society is something that affects this course of development (Duff et al. 2020). The following is the analysis of how cultural inclusion and social alleviation of the aboriginal communities can be enhanced by design solutions provided. These communities have led marginalised life for a long period and their active involvement in their own growth is somehow deemed essential in the modern context.
Design Solutions and Human Centred Approach
At first, it is significant to investigate through the link of engineering solutions and how this can assist in developing fundamental design solutions to ensure that quality of life is enhanced for aboriginal people. Engineers actually serve as the basic link to communicate with the people living in various communities in Australia—and they do the same task in the rest of the world so, this aspect of keeping human centred approach on priority is universally applicable to the work principles of engineers. For example, to connect them well, engineers work for the transport infrastructure development for the betterment of society. If this approach is applied in the context of aboriginal people, they are traditionally seen as socially isolated and having less means of transportations than the urban societies in Australia can be the source of this issue (Costello, 2021).
When it comes to understand the concept of human centred approach and its association with aboriginal individuals, one has to understand the fact that this perception works with the needs and expectations of common people. Engineers look forward towards the possibilities of gaining maximum advantage of technology with minimum investment done. Programs like development of railroads, basic housing schemes and development of the urban culture as well as logistic management of the goods and services are always a part of the design solutions proposed by the engineers in this context (Perichon, Heard & Schouten, 2021). The delivery of healthcare services, for example, depends on the development of dedicated logistics that can make the delivery of the medical services smooth to the aboriginal communities. This enhancement of physical connectivity is important part of this work.
Secondly, the human centred approach can alleviate the virtual connectivity of aboriginal people especially in the era of digital revolution. The modern anticipation of connectivity is valued a lot and the role of engineers in suggesting the best appropriate model, to deliver high quality connectivity services is deemed essential. The broadband connectivity and enhanced mobile technology are just a few factors in this respect because engineers can do much better than individuals of aboriginal communities can even expect (Duff...
