UPDATED HR STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES IN THE CONTEXT OF AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
ACA or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed in the interest of offering Health benefits to all, especially the working p
opulation (Manchikanti & Hirsch, 2012). In the light of the changes brought about by this legislation, it is necessary to make some amendments, renew our HR practices, and meet new challenges (Strack, 2008).Since we have always maintained a good health insurance policy for all our employees, only a few changes are mandated. However, the context of full-time employees has been revised. Since our facility works with several part-time workers and related agencies, it is necessary to clear the context (Thorsteinson, 2003). More patients also mean it is important to offer better service and to meet these demands, which highly talented staffs can only be able to manage despite being limited in numbers. The requirements for hiring staff will also be upgraded including background checks, mandatory references, and competence display even after the interview has been passed. HR is also considering the introduction of probation to assess employee competence before hiring full-time employees. As supported by Sachane, Bezuidenhout and Botha (2018), assessment of employees before full time contract offering in an organisation, the person must be tested in terms of practical and theoretical skill application at the workplace.
The context of a full-time employee has been upgraded to mean ‘an employee who works 30 or 30+ hours a week’ according to the ACA. All full-time employees are eligible for health insurance. The upgraded requirements added more duty hours to the job profile, which proves to be beneficial, when considering the fact that ACA requires less internal cost and making full time employees, work...
