You decide to carry out a short research project to investigate the phenomenon. Task 1 Review the list of suggested investigations given and discuss with your lecturer an area of interest to you. Agree with your lecturer the investigation you will be undertaking. Complete your Research Report: 1. Research the subject of your experiment and any related science, compiling a list of bibliography and references. You need to research a wide range of sources: books, journals and scientific websites. BUT make sure that the websites you use are authoritative. The bibliography and references must be recorded using the Harvard system. 2. During your research you will need to make notes. These notes will record progress of your research, your analysis of the information you have found and significant facts and details. When identifying significant facts you must obtain supporting evidence from other sources. Use this research information to help you plan your own practical experiment. How will this help you form your hypothesis? Write a report: 1. Formulate your hypothesis. This must be a testable hypothesis and written in the correct form. 2. State the objectives of your experiment. Ensure that these objectives address the hypothesis you have developed. 3. Produce a working plan for your investigation. This must include Risk Assessments for the work to be undertaken and sufficiently detailed that another person may follow your plan and repeat the investigation. 4. Evaluate you plan. Why have you chosen this method or approach? Were there alternatives? State reasons why you chose this particular method. Does your method justify your choice of hypothesis? Checklist of evidence required 1. Completed Report including objectives, hypothesis, working plan, risk assessment with Research Information You must reference all your sources using the Harvard System (Refer to Oaklearn for a guide) Other assessment materials attached to this Assignment Brief eg, work sheets, risk assessments, case study Criteria covered by this task: Unit/Criteria reference To achieve the criteria you must show that you are able to: P1 State the objectives and hypothesis relating to the investigation.
