Introduction
Although the course was signed up for because of its aesthetic values and grade points, but this course has been more reflective and educative at the same time, something which was completely unexpected. Before taking up this course, I was primarily an observer to on
line sources but after this course, I have been enabled with the eyes and thinking to evaluate the credibility of these online sources for use in my personal attainment of goals as well as for responsibly using in my academic work. Also I have realized that not only can I take out online resources, but I can also construct online sources myself. Creating online content for the whole world to have access to is very easy nowadays, but the fact that I can responsibly create online resources which can be counted upon, is a huge learning module in this course. Later through this piece I would like to explain how this course has helped me become an advanced student and learner in this mesh of art and fiction called the online world.
Development of my future work skills
In this ever evolving “World of Web”, keeping our skills updated is the least we can do to help us with our future endeavours. In the words of Confucius- “By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third, by experience, which is the bitterest”. Now when the world is changing at a faster pace than our typing speeds on WhatsApp, it is very important for us to have the experience and learn how to distinguish between right and wrong. This is a reflection of what I have learnt throughout this course.
We all know that the most common websites we turn to for information are Wikipedia, YouTube, and other such social media platforms. Through my research done during the course on various topics starting from the “Development of AI and its influence” to “Political turmoil in Venezuela”, what I found and learnt was that Wikipedia is not really a viable source of information when it comes to legitimacy and use for academic purposes. Anyone on the web can change the information according to their understanding. But use of the social media handles for information teaches us one very important work skill and that is working and sharing information together. Like mentioned by Vygotsky in his theory of Social Constructivism (Wees, D 2010) that we can always learn more effectively if there is social sharing of information as we never know what information the other person is aware of. The toughest part of course is to identify whether the information is genuine or not and there are a number of platforms to verify the same.
Development of current knowledge of the online environment
Like mentioned before, the online world is changing drastically and if we do not...
