Directions:
1) Please describe 1 piece of art from North Campus, or from AXIS Magazine (distibuted during class). Take 5 or 10 minutes to carefully look at the painting, photo, sculpture, or other art piece, and then describe the piece. You can describe just the physical aspects of the piece (see below for some helpful terms), or you can also describe your impressions of it, or any emotions you felt while viewing it.
Your grammar doesn't have to be perfect for this exercise, since you're turning it in today during class. Please focus instead on using words and phrases that describe sensory impressions (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, if applicable); you can also describe emotions, if the piece has an emotional impact on you.
2) Here is some helpful information and some terms you may want to include in your description:
texture- smooth, rough, rippled
shape- round, angular, square, amorphous
size
- 8" x 11", 24" x 72"
sight- color, material, location, light & shadow
sounds you can hear nearby (if any)
scent- smell of grass, rain at the place the art is displayed (if this applies)
emotions / impressions- describe any feelings you think the piece is meant to evoke (joy, sorrow, contemplation, etc.), or feelings you had while looking at it, or what you think the artist wanted the viewer to think about
