Rationale
Social Work practice draws upon a range of different knowledge. It is essential that you begin at an early stage to engage with this knowledge and develop your confidence in searching for knowledge and applying it to your academic work and your practice.
You are at the beginning of your academic journey on the BA Social Work at UCLan and it is important that you begin to familiarise yourself with academic expectations. A good place to start is the School of Social Work Assessment Handbook.
This assignment gives you the opportunity to write an academic assignment without the pressures of having the mark entered at an assessment board, and the opportunity to get some individual feedback from your tutor around your written style, presentation, structure, grammar, understanding of knowledge, application of knowledge, analysis of knowledge and referencing.

3. Search online journal databases to find at least one article from an academic journal which will deepen your understanding of one of the issues outlined in the article above. Describe the process by which you found these articles, referring to databases and search terms (100 words)

Assignment Guidance:
The assignment will be assessed in accordance with the General Assessment of the School of Work (see School of Social Work Assessment Handbook).
The areas of general assessment are:
Presentation – is the assignment presented in line with the Assessment Handbook.
Structure The assignment should begin with a brief introduction outlining the purpose of the piece and subsequently it should flow from one logical paragraph to another, it can be helpful to sketch a plan before you begin to write.
Grammar – use of language, a transferable practice skill, think about how you might begin to develop an academic / professional writing style (concise writing).
Knowledge – search for and find relevant knowledge and apply this knowledge to the newspaper article to improve your understanding of the issue discussed in the article
Application – apply the academic knowledge to the newspaper article
Analysis – offer some analysis of the literature you have read.
Referencing – please adhere to the School requirement to utilise Harvard referencing
