If ‘flow’ is a necessary condition for happiness, would you be happy if you were plugged into the Experience Machine?
Option B
If pleasure is a necessary condition for happiness, would you be happy if you were living the ‘good life’ as defined by Aristotle?
***Both options require that you define ‘happiness’ using course materials – e. g. Haybron, Aristotle, Bentham, or Mill. Your definition of ‘happiness’ must come from the course readings.***
2. Course materials:
Papers
must
include discussion of the relevant required course readings on happiness.
You are expected to both quote and paraphrase from the relevant course readings in order to support your argument.
The
only
secondary materials you are allowed to cite are those indicated on either the lecture slides or course Moodle.
3. Citations: Citations should take the following form:
alphabetized bibliography (include name of author, title of article, publisher [or journal information], date of publication) plus internal referencing in the text of your paper.
Internal referencing should include author, abbreviated title, & page number & should be placed in parentheses after the citation. If you are using more than one text by the same author, include an abbreviation of the title in your internal citation.

4. Length: approximately 5-6 pages. Do not write more than 1500 words.

Tutorial Number, Course Code and section number (PHIL 1100M) and “Major Essay.” Failure to follow these instructions will result in marks being deducted.
6. Due Date:

This essay requires both a hardcopy and Turnitin submission.

Floor, South Ross.
The hardcopy dropbox deadine is: 1pm on Monday, March 25

- Essays must also be uploaded to the Turnitin Link on Moodle.
The Turnitin deadline is 11:59pm on Monday, March 25

Essays will not be graded until both the hardcopy and Turnitin copies are submitted.
- Late essays will be penalized
10% per day
for each day they are late.

Essays must be written on the assigned topics
only.
They must conform to the specified length restrictions: materials in excess of the specified length will not be read or graded.
It is strongly recommended that you submit your Turnitin copy on March 24th
