CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE REPORT

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report will offer a detailed analysis on the real time issue focussed in the chosen article. Secondary sources of data have been utilised for performing the analysis. Journals have been utilised for gaining detailed insights on theoretical aspects of cultural intelligence. The international shipping company, Maersk has been involved in making the Indian yards to be complaint with the regulatory guidelines. There
are certain standards that are to be adhered by those yards to gain European certifications. The changes in recycling and other efforts that have been performed by Maersk had not been effective in making the Indian yards to be eligible for obtaining those certifications. The audits performed on the yards have expressed discontentment despite certain changes being done. The cleanup efforts that are recommended for the yards have been found to demand more financial resources that are greater than the revenue generated. The Indian yards are not ready or capable of performing those cleaning activities required to be performed as a part of complying with the standards. Cultural awareness of Maersk is found to be lacking in this regard. The company should have evaluated the possibilities of implementing those standards in the Indian yards where workers are unsafe and the environment is degraded for financial benefits. The employers or the government has not been concerned. It is recommended for Maersk to have cultural evaluation and negotiation with government to involve in collaborative efforts.

INTRODUCTION
This report shall critically analyse the chosen article on a real life problem and to resolve it under the light of cultural intelligence. The analysis on the issue becomes important to be performed for gaining required insights on the cultural intelligence aspects that have lacked in the scenario. Cultural intelligence or cultural quotient is an important capability for the individuals and contemporary organisations who are involved in international assignments. The knowledge on different cultural backgrounds, practices, norms and conventions can be known as cultural intelligence which is gained from experience or education. Recognising the cultural differences and adapting to them can influence the continuality, growth and enhancement of the particular individual or organisation. The legal, social, economic and sub-cultural aspects are also to be known for better coping with the other cultures (Ramalu, Wei & Rose, 2011). The importance of cultural intelligence for tackling the situation in the chosen issue will be realised in this report.
2.
METHODOLOGY
The report will be proceeded with the media article that is chosen from an online source. The article has dealt with reporting a significant issue which is required to be analysed in the aspect of cultural intelligence. The data required in this regard has been taken from secondary sources which are books, journals, company reports, government publications and newspaper articles that contain published data. Relevant keywords have been utilised for identifying the appropriate resources. These secondary sources are easier to access thereby making the research processes to be simpler and time efficient. Credible and updated sources are considered for the search activity. The media article has been published in March 2019. Other materials used for analysis in the report will be ensured that they are published after the year 2010 so that there might not be any time lags. Primary method has not been chosen as it requires fresh data regarding the issue and real time information is to be collected from human participants. This might consume more efforts, time and money. Therefore, secondary sources have been utilised for research in this report.
3.
LIMITATIONS
The data collection process for this report has been performed using secondary sources that contain already published information. This method of research has certain limitations despite its time saving and inexpensive nature. Secondary sources have data that are already published where there is no scope for gaining fresh perspectives as in primary data collection method. Moreover, the secondary data collection method can present only factual information on a particular scenario without any insights on causes or consequences on the same. Quality of the information or the source are important to be considered to ensure the data credibility. Adequate availability of data on critical aspects of a topic that is specifically needed can be a major uncertainty in secondary sources. Accuracy of the data might be questioned. As mentioned earlier, the present report has overcome such drawbacks of secondary data collection through effective selection of sources in terms of credibility and timeliness.
4.
ASSUMPTIONS
It is assumed that the data that has been collected from the particular secondary source is the original reporting that has been garnered from the field. The article has...
