MIS100_Assessment_3_Brief_Reflective Report Page 1 of 7 Task Summary You are required to write and submit a 1500-word individual reflection about your group learning experience in this course. You will be required to cover ethical practice in the context of group collaboration based on your personal experience in completing the group assignment. Context In professional life, while some parts of a job require individual contribution for which one is held individually accountable, many of one’s career deliverables require collaboration and group work. Group learning is designed to help you learn about the process of collaboration in preparation for your career. Equally, ethics are the principles of right and wrong that guide individuals in their behaviours, and all groups are made up of individuals. Ethics is a concept that is often discussed, but it is human behaviours and choices that lead to either desirable or undesirable outcomes. Many times, codes of ethics are covered for employees in the induction process into a new job, but it is actions that determine ethical behaviour. Similarly, with a group assignment, individual behaviour can produce desirable or undesirable outcomes for a group, and ethics and ethical behaviours (integrity) are at the core of which outcomes are achieved. Reflective practice is recognised as a valuable part of learning through experience. Reflective practice is a process of thinking about new experiences with a view of learning from them. It is a form of personal analytical response to new experiences, situations, events or information. As group work is often a key development area for students and University is the best place to learn, reflection is considered a key part of the learning process for this course. Weighting 40% Total Marks 100 marks MIS100_Assessment_3_Brief_Reflective Report Page 2 of 7 This process involves recording your observations and thinking deeply about your feelings and responses to situations. It also enables you to increase your understanding and to gain new insights about yourself, others and situations. A result of these new insights may lead to a change of thinking or behaviour with the aim of improving outcomes in the future. Kolb – The Experiential Learning Cycle (2013, p.8) The above model from Kolb shows the different learning modes of experiential learning. First comes the experience of working in a group, with successes and challenges. However, for experiential learning to take place reflections need to be drawn from the experience, deep thinking needs to be done to determine what worked well, what didn’t and how could better outcomes have been achieved. Thereafter these findings can be taken forward to the next group assignment experience for active experimentation to achieve good outcomes. The questions in this assignment serve as a guideline of the ethical questions associated with group work. Reference Kolb, A. Y., & Kolb, D. A. (2013). The Kolb Learning Style Inventory. Introduction
Our team was established to finish the case study "Information System
Foundation" task. The task is to critically analyze case studies and identify issues in merger, as well as then provide management with suggestions on practices and strategies. The main function of this report is to reproduce my experience in group work (Garcia & De Monte, 2012). In this report, I will talk about my skill in team formation, work arrangements moreover how to control team work.
Group Formation
This is a primary stage. This is a time to decide team members or team tasks. Students can also form their own team and assigned them. Our situations belong to first type. The teacher gave us time to form a team, becaus we choose the members of group or formed five groups (Garcia & De Monte, 2012). We decided to select a person in charge to make the clear and smooth communication, instead of contacting each other. Everybody shared ideas about the project.
Asssociation of Work
The initial challenge after team formation is how to arrange work to finish the task on time. In primary stage, we divide a task into a lesser parts moreover assign this part to every group member. Now, all group members understand who will do what in what time and format (Li et al., 2020). If something goes wrong, accountability is not just blaming. It's not regret. Accountability is fulfilling promises. It is responsible for results, not just a set of tasks. It is taking a thoughtful, strategic initiative Action. "The problem is that when managers encounter accountability issues, their subconscious response are usually to tighten their grip and become the micromanager in the process. However, accountability is based on trust and support. Based on this trust and support, team members have an incentive to do the right thing and assume responsibility when they do n’t. Therefore, when you can't get the results you want, don't focus on stress and monitoring, but try the following 6 tips to help you improve the team's sense of responsibility (Meeussen et al., 2014). Many accountability problems stem from the failure to clearly define the success of team members-in fact; clarity is at the core of accountability. Whenever you hold an employee accountable for something, it should be clear from the beginning what the expected results are, how to measure them, and how team members plan to achieve them. These expectations should be achieved through discussion and mutual agreement between you and your employees (Wood, 2014). There is absolutely no need for you and you to define them by yourself; make sure they are the product of the dialogue and can be bought from the beginning.
