Introduction
In the modern times, the business has evolve
d from shareholders approach to stakeholders approach. The interest of the internal and the external stakeholders are required to be kept in mind while undertaking any activity. McDonalds is one of the largest food chain across the globe. The company was started in 1948 and it has established itself as one of the most preferred brands across the globe. The company has also responded to the health issues faced by the public by introducing innovative product with less fat.
The company has operations in almost all the developed and developing countries. In 2018, the number of employees of the company was 210000 and the number of location, in which it operates, was 37855. This assignment deals with business stakeholder’s analysis of McDonalds with an aim to identify the roles of the stakeholders and map their influence on the company.
PESTLE Analysis
According to Allemandi et al. (2016), PESTLE is a tool for analysing the external environment of a business. PESTLE stands for political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental. The political factors affecting McDonalds are increasing international trade agreements, evolution of public health policies and guidelines issues by related authorities for health and diet.
The economic factors, which have an effect on the performance or operations of McDonalds, are rapid growth of the developing countries, stable growth of the developed economies and slowdown of the Chinese economy, which is a big market of the company. Increasing purchasing power, awareness among the public regarding health and healthy diet and sedentary lifestyle in the urban areas are the social factors affecting McDonalds. As noted by Gorham, Gibson and Irlbeck (2016), the technological factor affecting the company are increasing automation of business, increase in online selling and rapid development of the business process through continuous research and development.
The legal factors affecting McDonalds are increasing minimum wage rate across the globe, increasing restriction on consumption of animals and increasing regulation related to health across schools and workplaces. Changes in weather conditions and increasing importance of sustainable business strategies are the environmental factor affecting business. All the above-mentioned factors have a significant effect on the operations, business or profitability of the organisation. The above-mentioned factor may be a threat or an opportunity for the organisation.
Functional Areas of McDonalds
The functional areas of McDonalds mainly include human resource, finance, administration, human resource, marketing and sales. All the functional areas of the company are inter-related and proper co-ordination among all functions is required to optimum performance of the business. As stated by Kim, Kim, Marshall and Afzali (2018), each function of a company can be categorised into department having different roles. The sales department is concerned with interacting with existing customers, increasing their customer satisfaction level and gaining new customers.
It consists of the Information technology and other departments, which plays a crucial role in managing the day-to-day operations of the company. The marketing department is concerned with increasing the sales of the company, quality control at the product and sales level. The role of different department is generally same across all the industries. However, little difference in role can be observed based on the product or service offered by an organisation and the scale of operations of the entity.

The external stakeholders of McDonalds include government, media, communities and customers. As stated by Miksch, Nguyen and Schulz (2018) the role of the government is to support the business along with providing a healthy environment for the business. In addition to that, the government ensures regulation in the areas of competition, taxation, consumer protection and other to protect the interest of all sections of the society. In case of McDonalds, media plays the role of appreciating and criticising the activities of the organisation.
It informs the public about the recent developments of the organisation. Customers are the most important external stakeholders for any organisation. The company produces the products and the service to meet the needs and requirement of the customers. Customer acts as source of revenue for the firm. According to Miller (2016), communities play an integral role by accepting the product of the company. McDonalds ensures that it contributes the maximum to the communities through its social initiatives.
The internal stakeholders of the company include owner, employees and managers. The employees of McDonalds play an important role in managing the demands of the customers and arranging for the same.
