Notice how often during a day you use or hear the word ‘communication’. For a day, whenever you do, try asking yourself (or others) Who needs to know what? Who needs to say what? Who needs to ask what? Notice whether that changes the level of energy that is focused on the problem. If you are managing (or are part of) a team, does everyone in it know who relies on them and their work, and how? Do they use the three rules (agreeing expectations, etc.) with each other so that team members are confident in the value of each other’s performance and the team works effectively as a team? If you are managing the team do you observe the three rules, and give them feedback as a team?
