Recently, lunch hours traffic has increased, and the assistant manager asks you to avoid delays by taking customers’ cash and making change without entering sales. The assistant manager says she will add up cash and enter sales after lunch. She says that, in this way, customers will be happy, and the register record will always match the cash amount when the manager arrives at 3 o’clock. The advantages to the process proposed by the assistant manager include improved customer service, fewer delays, and less work for you. The disadvantages to the process proposed by the assistant manager include improved customer services, fewer delays, and less work for you. The advantage is that the assistant manager could steal cash by simply recording less than the cash received and then pocketing the excess cash. You decide to reject her suggestion with out the manager’s approval and to confront her on the ethics of her suggestion. dilemma:
In the case, the sales transactions and cash receipts were recorded in books immediately by cashier when the transactions occurred. The manager of the bank instructed to the cashier to take cash and make the changes to the customers without recording sale entry in the books and said that after lunch same will be recorded by adding up all cash received. In the case, earlier the internal control was very strong whereas in current proposed situation, there are chances that the manager can steal the cash and can record the entry with lower amount. Now the cashier is in ethical dilemma whether to obey the manager suggestion or should continue with his existing practice to record the entry immediately.
