Researchers would like to investigate the heat/mass transfer in a rectangular channel with nine strip fins for potential heat exchanger applications (as shown in the sketch). Airflow through the channel, is steady, turbulent, and incompressible. Focusing on the center row of strip fins, use the naphthalene sublimation technique to evaluate the thermal performance of the strip fins.
a. Sketch the major experimental setup, describe the measurement principle, including the process for casting the naphthalene surface and using a LVDT for local depth measurements, and detail the measurement procedures of the naphthalene sublimation technique.
b. Sketch and discuss the expected experimental results (surface mass and heat transfer coefficient distributions) and perform uncertainty analysis.
