Introduction
Human resources are one of the most components of a successful business, while their performance, dedication, and consistency in the organisation generate the scope of profit and sustainable development. The managing of the staffs, their performance, the dedication of the staffs and their will for staying in their respective companies depend largely on the degree of motivation, which in the face of organisational changes, mismanagement and workplace issues lead to demotivation, consequently leading to lower performance, absenteeism, low workplace morale and less profitable business proposition. In the current study the issues arising out of demotivation at ABC Company, their reasons and probable solutions are discussed in details.
5 Major Reasons of Staff Demotivation at ABC Company
1. Micromanagement
ABC Company’s managers and executives are very concerned about each of the projects they undertake, therefore, they get involved in the tasks of their employees to check if the work is done as per their expectations and contribute, unknowingly in micromanagement. The interferences of the managers and executives in all work, making the employees lose faith in their skills, decision making as well as creativity, which demotivated them significantly. In a micromanaged workplace, where the managers and the senior executives get involved in minute details of the work and interfere, with the sole aim of improving the work, the employees get demotivated. As stated by Singh (2018), the aim of micromanagement is evidently positive, given that it is done only when needed, as it has the passive hint that upper management lacks faith in the work of its lower level employees, acting as a probable reason of employee demotivation.
2. Job Insecurity
ABC Company has a temporary employment contract, which requires the employers and the employees to reconsider their negotiation terms after the expiry of the contract, repetitively, which increases the sense of insecure career prospects. In addition, the contracts at ABC Company do not ensure the mandatory renewal of the contract of the employees, which makes the decision of the employers the arbitrary power. As mentioned by Shin et al. (2019), when employees, do not see the consistency of their contracts, they feel insecure about their stay in the organisation and their future, which makes them demotivated, often leading to employee turnover, lower performance and lack of dedication. Taking cue from the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Johnson et al. (2018) suggested that employees of an organisation tend to develop different types of workplace expectations over time, and it is not always about the money that is being paid and hikes to the employees, but the sheer psychological and social aspects.
3. Uninspiring Leadership
ABC has a board of directors, executives and wide range of managers, yet the company seemed to be out of sync, when it comes to collective and complementary decision making. The organisational leadership, despite their backgrounds do not communicate with the staffs, focus only on profit and set aims that reflect their lack of self confidence, charisma and vision, making them uninspiring to the workforce. At times it is seen that the leadership deviate from their goals and attain lower goals, accepting their incapacity...
