Students will utilize the completed project, Atticus’s Little Instruction Book: “The Wisdom, advice, and lessons of Atticus compiled in a little instruction book” to 1) write a controlling idea; 2) organize three PPT to create three body paragraphs; 3) write a conclusion paragraph to complete a persuasive essay.

Controlling Idea
: The main point of the essay must be stated clearly (opinion not a fact)

Organization
: There must be a controlling idea. Each paragraph must be designed to contribute significant support for the controlling idea. These paragraphs must be arranged strategically, according to a rational purpose and well connected in terms of meaning.

Development:

The essay must employ enough evidence to thoroughly achieve its purpose and sufficiently explain its controlling idea.

Audience:

Tone, style, language, rhetorical devices, etc. should be consistent with what might work with the mindset of your audience in terms of age, race, culture, etc.

Instructions:

1. Choose a theme from your completed "book" (PPT). Example - prejudice

2. Write a controlling idea (thesis statement) using the theme (word) onto a blank MLA Google Doc.

3. Use this format for #2 (thesis): In Harper Lee’s,

4. Write an introduction paragraph (5 sentences including controlling idea)

5. Choose three slides to support the theme you selected; use the direct quote from the book and your explanation of the significance of the lesson or advice. Revise to correct errors and improve quality.

6. Copy and paste each of the three slide’s text onto a blank MLA Google Document as three separate body paragraphs.

7. Write a conclusion paragraph (5 sentences) to complete the persuasive essay.

7. Add a Works Cited page.
