CSE2DCX – Assessment 5 2019 Edition 3 Possible Research Topics As part of this subject you learned about creating and working with relational database on the Amazon cloud. However, it is not the only cloud provider to offer such services. In this assignment, you are required to produce a research report on the alternatives i.e. other cloud-based database solutions. Select one of the following topics: 1. Microsoft Azure 2. Google Cloud Services 3. Oracle Cloud 4. IBM cloud databases You may select an alternative topic (not on the list above) but only with the approval of your lecturer. You need to get the approval in writing after discussing the topic with your lecturer and submit that together with your assignment. All research reports should conform to the following basic requirements. • Include a cover page with your student details. • Include the following three sections in your report: 1. Introduction to cloud database provider 2. Creating a cloud database 3. Working with the cloud database Introduction section will be used to describe the cloud provider you chose, and the RDBMS resources it offers. Include details about the reasons behind your selection, and the advantages/disadvantages of using the selected provider. The “Creating a cloud database” section will include information about creating a database on the selected cloud provider. You can access the Microsoft Azure through the Learning Portal; go to “Forms and Links” and click on the link under “Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for teaching”. While the other cloud providers could be accessed through their free trials. Include screenshots for all the steps including creating account (not need to this for Azure), accessing account, creating database etc. In “Working with the database” section, you will be running queries on the newly created database. For this task you will run 4 queries on the newly created database. These would be a create table query, inserting data into the newly created table, selecting data from the table, and displaying all information about all tables in the database (data dictionary). You can use tasks in assessment 3 as an inspiration or can come up with your own table and data. You should remember that every database is different, and your responses may need a little tweaking. For instance, the task about data dictionary might require a different response. Make sure that you run all the queries and provide screenshot for each output. • Include screenshots for sections 2 and 3. • You can optionally include appendices if they are not excessive. • Include references where necessary. • Strict minimum of 1,100 words and strict maximum of 2,000 words, excluding any appendices and bibliogrpy. Marks will be deducted for not meeting this requirement. Please read the marking criteria on the next page for understanding the core requirements of this assessment task. This tool also allows the users to host the web applications using the Microsoft data centers.
There are different types of clouds present in the Microsoft Azure. They are the following:
1) PAAS
2) SAAS
3) IAAS

They use it to process, store par to perform other fundamental operations of computer. It allows the users to run arbitrary software.
Advantages:
· It provides better design time portability.
· When we need complete control over the application then it is advisable to use it.
· it also offers the quick transition of services to the clouds.
· It makes us free from the headache of setting multiple physical or virtual machines for the system.
· It also helps to access, manage and monitor the data centers.
Disadvantages
· There are many security risks from the unpatched servers.
· There are few companies who have defined some process to test and update the vulnerabilities of the servers which is not possible with the Microsoft Azure.
Azure as PAAS
The PAAS Can be defined as a computing platform which have an operating system, a programming language execution environment, database and the web services this type of Azure service is used by the application providers and developers.
