INTRODUCTION
Change management is the critical phase of an organization due to a resistan
ce of change from the several parties. However, the application of a change in the corporation ensures long-term success by bringing the novel concept of working at the workplace (Carnall, 2018; Doppelt, 2017). This resistance is caused by several internal and external factors which have an adverse impact on the overall performance of the business. In this context, the factors contributing to the resistance of change has been explained with the application of Kotter's theory of change. For this purpose, a plan for change management has been explained along with the factors showing the success of a plan.
A SITUATION- LACK OF UNDERSTANDING
Internal and external factors affect the change management in the organization in the direct or indirect manner. In this regard, an example of ABC retail company has been taken which is planning to set its online store for increasing the satisfaction level of clients and obtain the competitive edge of the business. At this juncture, a marketing manager of ABC company is resisted to change in the organization because that person does not have adequate knowledge regarding online stores and was not capable enough to deal with digital customers. Also, the lack of understanding is the potential reason through which marketing manager become rigid towards the proposed changes for the business.
Here, the behavior of marketing meager towards the change became rigid due to several internal as well as external factors. For example, the current culture of the corporation is quite different since is the business was operating with the physical stores only so accordingly all internal activities were shaped. This indicates that plan of setting up the online stores will change the overall operation of the business and the role of marketing manager will also be changed along with the additional responsibilities to handle the operation in a different manner. Apart from this, external factors including technology, social condition and high competition in the market were the matter of concern of the marketing manager through which he thought that he may not be able to achieve the targets and the proposed change will affect his current performance. In this regard, the change management plan has been explained along with the application of Kotter’s theory of change management-
