At the completion of this unit students should be able to: a. Explain what constitutes value for an organisation. b. Lead a discussion on the role of EA to support business strategic goals through IT alignment, planning and governance. c. Describe enterprise-level architectural views for the business, information, technology, and application domains. d. Report on the relationship between EA and other architectures such as system, solution, data, application and technology. e. Investigate the appropriate use of industry EA methods and frameworks. f. Report on the current and future state for a portfolio of IT applications. g. Interpret a roadmap process for the IT portfolio to support long-term business strategy. You will work in a small group of 2 – 3 students in a group. Your group is to initiate and plan a strategy map from a business perspective. Every group should select/prepare their case study on a different business type such as: Banking Manufacturing Health Education Government (local state or federal), or Service Industries including Catering, Restaurants, and Hospitality Students should consult with their lecturer or tutor (either in person or via email) to get their topic approved, and to make sure that there is no direct overlap between groups. Once the topic has been approved, students should begin the preliminary work for the assignment. The assignment has two deliverables: Deliverable 1: Write a report of minimum 2500 words Deliverable 2: Conduct a presentation to the class (10-15 minutes) during the lab session Groups This assignment is a group assignment. Students will work in max groups of three and only the group leader will submit the files required at Moodle assignment submission link. Note that the groups will be created randomly. Your report should include the following sections. a. A statement of the case study situation: a general description of the problem (issues and challenges) b. A general description of the solution strategy, consisting of: I. A strategy map from the business perspective, including: The Financial view The Customer view The Internal process view The Learning and Growth view ii) The corresponding IT strategy map, aligning the IT drivers and objectives with the business drivers/objectives and internal process view of the map above. The presentation should focus on convincing the management of the relevance and appropriateness of the EA project, to convince them to fund the project. The essential points of your report should be covered in the presentation. The presentation should be no longer than 15 minutes, and the emphasis should be on presenting the alignment between the business drivers and the IT initiatives. An important point: You are not alone on this, create early drafts and keep working on it with the lecturer and tutor until you are satisfied that you got it right. WHAT TO SUBMIT You should upload copies of both your report and your presentation slides should be submitted on Moodle. Report Writing Guidelines and Marking Criteria: Your report must include the following; Title Page - Clearly setting out the title of your assessment, your name, your student ID, the unit name, unit code and the name of the lecturer. There must be no graphics or pictures of any kind on the title page. Executive Summary - Provide 'No more than one page' of summary. Table of Contents - Auto generated using the word processor. Introduction - This section should introduce the general aims, backgrounds of topics and areas/issues you will discuss in the report. Body - Discuss your findings in detail, where appropriate, headings and sub-headings should be included with the logical progression of your report from one idea to the next. Do not use the word 'Body' as a heading - identify words that relate to your report for the heading. Recommendations - Describe the recommendations you would make. All recommendations need to be supported by sources. Do not write these recommendations as dot points. Conclusion - In this section you need to summarise your work and findings. You should introduce no new points in your conclusion. References - This is a list of all the books and articles you have cited in your assessment. Use IEEE referencing style for your in-text citations as well as your list of references. All words in the text of an assignment, including headings, are included in the word count of an assignment. This includes in-text citations. However, the word count does NOT include the executive summary, table of contents, figures, tables, appendices or the reference list.
