Regression Assignment
Exercise 1.1
a) Given that there were 20 assignments to be completed in two semesters.
It is
observed that students got 1.5 marks more in the final exam whenever they completed 1 assignment otherwise not. i.e. if x is the number of assignments and y the final grades, then we can say y increases 1.5 points for 1 increase in x.
Also given that the relation is strictly linear , moderately strong and highly statistically significant relationship between these two variables
Here y , the final exam grades is the dependent variable and x no of assignments completed is the independent variable.
Thus the linear relation can be depicted as
Y = 1.5x+C, where C is the marks expected to be scored by the student even if no assignment is done. Here domain of x is 0 to 20
i.e. x can take values as 0,1,2….20
Thus y can take values from C to C+30.
Because it is already statistically tested and proved that there is a strictly linear, moderately strong and highly significant relationship between these two variables, we find that the increase in y due to increase in x is positive, and significant i.e. >0
Thus from the available information, we can conclude...
