Instructions Weight: 30% Word Limit: 1500-2000 words The purpose of a literature review is to gain an understanding of the existing research and debates relevant to a particular topic or area of study, and to present that knowledge in the form of a written report. Conducting a literature review helps you build your knowledge in your field. Literature Review Topic: Virtual reality (VR) technology has witnessed both fervent embracement and strong opposition from individuals across various domains. Using this as your foundation, examine the topic area, and construct a literature review essay, that aims to comprehensively examine the contrasting attitudes towards VR technology, seeking to understand the reasons behind the enthusiastic embrace or vehement rejection of its existence. By analyzing a wide range of scholarly sources, your review will provide a nuanced understanding of the complex societal responses to VR, facilitating a deeper appreciation of the factors that shape public opinion towards this transformative technology. Your literature review essay, should follow the following design structure and components and follow the marking criteria requirements: 1. Cover Page A title or cover page is exactly what you would imagine—it is the very front page of your academic essay or paper, which includes important information about your work. The function of a title or cover page is that it allows the reader to identify your work briefly, but it can also help your assignments to look neater and more professionally put-together. 2. Executive Summary The executive summary should be concise and not involve too much detail. It should make commentary on the main points only and follow the sequence of the report. It is a document that synthesizes key points for its readers, saving them time and preparing them to understand the study's overall content. Write the executive summary after the report is completed, and once you have an overview of the whole text. 3. Introduction Your introduction should give an outline of: why you are writing a review, and why the topic is important. The scope of the review — what aspects of the topic will be discussed and the criteria used for your literature selection (e.g., type of sources used, date range). Moreover, the introduction of a literature review serves the same purpose as an introduction in any other type of paper or essay. The introduction should include a statement of the problem, briefly explain the significance of your topic study (to the education field and the world if applicable), and act to introduce the reader to your definitions and background. This sets the theoretical framework for your paper 4. Main Body The body of your literature review should summarize the findings of studies that have been conducted on your topic. For each study you should briefly explain its purpose, procedure for data collection and major findings. This is the section where you will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of studies. Remember that a literature review should not be a listing of articles or researchers but rather a flowing article incorporating both prose and citations. Moreover, you will need to synthesise several of your reviewed readings into each paragraph, so that there is a clear connection between the various sources. You will need to critically analyse each source for how they contribute to the themes you are researching. 5. Conclusion The conclusion will provide to the reader a summary of the main agreements and disagreements in the literature. Furthermore, any gaps or areas for further research, and your overall perspective on the topic. It also serves as a summary of the body of your literature review and should highlight the most important findings (in your opinion). There needs to be a sense of completion to the whole piece in this section. And finally, it can also include any strengths and weaknesses in general of the research area. If you believe there is more to research you may include that here. 6. References Please see the "Assessment Design – Adapted Harvard Referencing" section for the referencing guidelines. Your main reference material should be peer reviewed material sourced from the ProQuest database. 7. Appendices This section includes any additional explanatory information, which is supplementary and graphical to help communicate the main ideas made in the report. Refer to the appendices in the main body paragraphs as and where appropriate. (Note this is excluded from the total word count.). Academic Integrity Information Holmes Institute is committed to ensuring and upholding academic integrity. All assessment must comply with academic integrity guidelines.
