Week 1: Assignment Part One

Hands-on course projects are designed to give you an opportunity to explore ideas and techniques on your own computers. This first assignment has 3 parts: Handouts, Instructions, and Digital Files.

  • Handoutsare intended to supplement the material in the class lectures. In this case, more detail about core OS components and best-practices is provided.

  • Instructionswalk you step-by-step through each project, and always include screenshots that will help you follow along with the exercise.

  • Digital Filesare the raw materials for each project. When appropriate, a sample completed file will be provided for reference.

Almost all class projects will follow this general system!

Project Details

There are two separate projects in this assignment:

  • Create an online account for web-based file backups. We recommend Dropbox or Google Drive, but other online backup services are fine. There is nothing to turn-in for this assignment, but please do get into the habit of using online backups!

  • File Management. Part two will take you through some essential file management techniques. At the end, you will compress and submit your beautifully organized project folder!
