Perhaps the most crucial aspect of Americans to comprehend is their dedication to "individualism." They are taught from the start to perceive themselves as distinct people, accountable for their own life circumstances and destiny. They are not taught to regard themselves as members of a family, religious organization, tribe, nation, or other closely linked and interdependent group.
They also believe, as stated in their Declaration of Independence, that all people are created equal. Although people occasionally break this ideal in their everyday lives, particularly when it comes to race, Americans basically think that everyone (at least everyone in the United States) is of equal value and that no one is born superior to the other. One person, one vote, they argue, suggests that each individual's point of view is just as valuable and deserving of respect as anybody else's. When they show obvious respect, they become irritated. They despise being bent down to, rejected, and treated as if they couldn't damage anyone.
Because of their belief in equality, Americans are highly courteous in their behavior and treatment of others. Store salespeople and service personnel, for example may identify themselves by their first name and greet clients in a casual and pleasant manner.
