What is the connection between emotional intelligence and implicit attitudes or bias, how are they different, and how are they related?
Emotional intelligence and implicit attitudes or biases are distinct but interconnected psychological phenomenon. Emotional intelligence involves one's ability to recognise, understand, manage, and utilize emotions effectively. Trust, implicit attitudes, or biases are unconscious automatic associations and stereotypes that affect how we perceive and interact with different groups or ideas. The connection lies in their influence on decision making. Emotional intelligence can help individuals to become more aware of their own biases and mitigate their impact, as it fosters emotional awareness and empathy, which are critical in recognizing and challenging implicit biases (EITC, 2018).
