The use of the termsprofessional, semiprofessional,andparaprofessionalmay convey the idea that these are absolute categories with firm boundaries separating them. Although members of the most high-status, well-paid professions would prefer to have it this way, these different categories might better be seen as occupying a multidimensional continuum where the boundaries separating one category from another often are indistinct.
