Working with a partner or small group (no group larger than 3 people), you will create atimeline mural or museum gallery guide of 10 objects. You will select one for each unit/theme we’ve studied this year (9) plus one object of your choosing. The 10thobject that is your own choice may represent a larger theme of history, an important idea or invention, a historical superstar, an iconic musical or art piece—whatever you think should be included in representing what you learned this year that couldn’t fit anywhere else.

Below are the main topics we studied this year.

  1. Gilded Age/Progressive Era (immigration, industrialization, urbanization) (1880-1920)

  2. American Imperialism/WWI (1898-1919)

  3. 1920s (1920-1929)

  4. The Great Depression (1929-1941)

  5. WWII (1939-1945)

  6. Early Cold War (1945-1962)

  7. Civil Rights/Social Movements (1950s-1980s)

  8. Vietnam War Era/70s (1960s-1970s)

  9. 1980s/End of Cold War/Rise of Conservatism (1980s-90s)

  10. Other—pick an artifact of your choice from any era

DIRECTIONS:All of this needs to be aesthetically displayed either physically or virtually (online). You may download, draw, paint, or create the objects, but each one should thoughtfully represent each unit. You could also create some sort of long-form poem or creative writing piece that incorporates this information, but please check with me for examples. For each object you will: a) describe what it is and why it is representative of this era/themeb) provide a 1-2 paragraph written justification for each choiceFinally, each person in your group will write a 1-2-page typed reflection of your group’s process. Explain the process and methodology you used to select the artifacts and what discussions arose around specific choices. What methodology did you use to determine the artifacts? What perspectives did you consider? What other artifacts did you consider but then decide against? What did this process make you think about regarding American history? What did this project make you think about regarding modern day artifacts that might hold importance to explain our current American culture? This should be done in standard college essay format.
