Introduction
The Riverina region of New South Wales faces adverse climatic
conditions that expose the disadvantages in agriculture and natural resource management. This indirectly contemplates the negative impact on the economy of the changing climate. This particular review focuses to investigate the economic impacts of variability of climate in the Riverina region. It is obvious to mention that there are significant synergies between climate change adaptation and the practices of the regional economy in terms of natural resource management and agriculture. The Riverina region of New South Wales is most extremely impacted by the consequences of climate change because of the increasing temperature, changes in the distribution of rainfall, reduced snowfalls and decrease in the river flows.
Economic Impacts of Climate Change
With the alteration in the climatic and atmospheric factors, it is likely to mention that there is a direct and indirect impact on the economic activity of the region. The significant economic activities in this particular region are agriculture and livestock production. Climate scenarios are likely to have an impact on feed production and grazing management. The food quality for the livestock is constantly exposed to heat and cold stress and thereby degrades the quality of the forage (Broadfoot et al., 2021). Moreover, the climate impact has an adverse effect on the disruption of the natural resources base and international trade.
The economic impact is more profound with the carbon border tariffs which are appropriate in the case of Australia and the Wales region of Australia are already bearing considerable climatic cost related to worsening extreme weather. Moreover, high emission scenarios cost frequent and severe events such as bush fires and floods which have a long-term trend such as sea level rises and rise in average temperature that leads to particular economic losses in the region.
Communities are already suffering the negative impacts of climate variability which are apparently economics and this particular shift in climate extensively deserves the value of acids and the infrastructure (Hughes et al., 2021). Much of the agriculture of the region is located in the Southwest and these regions are highly sensitive to the changes in water availability. Climate changes are responsible for water security in these areas. Moreover, Riverina region has the maximum population of the state which has many high-value assets and infrastructure that are subject to storms, sea-level rise, and increased flooding due to the climate change.
Impacts on Livestock Production
Southern Australia's livestock production is extremely sensitive to the factors of climate variability because of its dependence on the supply of dryland pastures. However, this variability of climate affects significantly the natural vegetation of these regions. It is witnessed that most of the regions received severe rainfall in the lower parts which change the cropping pattern and undergoes a systematic change in response to the future alterations in the climate. It has been estimated that the impact of climate change will significantly affect the total factor...
